Ii Otoshi Yo! (Happy New Years)

Here comes another year gone by. Amazing thing, time. :) Happy New Year’s everyone. 2003 is the Year of the Goat! I hope everyone has a great New Year’s, and keep those resolutions!

I’m sure you’re wondering what my resolutions are. But I can’t tell anyone yet, since it’s not New Year’s quite yet. (Isn’t that the rule? :)

LOTR: The Two Towers

All I can say is great movie! Definitely have to check this out if you haven’t already! At this point, I’m just can’t wait for the extended DVD version. :) Not to mention the final movie.

Now I’m hoping this starts up a whole new genre of fantasy type movies. It would be great to see some books I’ve read converted into movies. Although doing something like Wheel of Time would be pretty lengthy. Actually making a series of movies would be pretty hard. I’d love to see the Sword of Truth novels to be converted, since each book actually ends, unlike Wheel of Time or Song of Ice and Fire which are continual stories. ;)

Actually I’d like to see a movie based on Vampire The Masquerade. Way back when, Kindred The Embraced was a great series, but they gone and cancelled it of course. All my shows are cancelled. Although John Doe is still on. :)

Lord of the Rings The Two Towers. Haven’t seen it yet. I keep hearing nothing but good things about it. I want to go. Let’s go!

Lost Highway is STILL not on DVD yet. ugh. Someday.

Um. No.

Jackass the Movie. Um. No. Yeah, there were a few good parts, but very few. I’m glad I didn’t pay for that movie.

Ian Mckellan. He’s da man. Being in movies like LOTR, X-men, Apt Pupil, and more, he’s unbelievable versatile in his acting. Damn he’s da man.

Finally watched Fellowship of the Ring extended version. I have to say that it was much improved. It’s a great movie without it, but I feel that the extended scenes definitely lifted it up.

The Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind. If you like fantasy/sci fi, I MUST recommend these books. The first book is called Wizard’s First Rule. I didn’t start into them before, only because one of my friends said that Goodkind was not a good writer. We liked the same kind of stories (Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and others) so I took his word. Man was I EVER wrong.

Goodkind writes very well. I mean very well. He didn’t spend a bajillion pages building the character before he goes on with the story. Instead it all seems to happen while the story is happening. It’s hard to explain. And he writes with such passion! I felt for many of these characters. I could Totally relate to all of them. I mean the passion he has is incredible. He draws you into the story and makes you feel as if you were physically there, watching the tale unfold. Faith of the Fallen was the last book I read. (Pillars of Creation is the latest book released, but I have not been able to get it yet, it doesn’t have the “main” characters in it, and have been waiting for paperback.) I’m highly anticipating the next book, Naked Empire. It’s due out June of 2003. Man what a long time to wait, eh? ;)

Go visit his official site today: www.terrygoodkind.com. If you appreciate great fantasy, then this is for you.

There’s going to be a benefit night full of music, food, raffles, and lots of other stuff for my buddy Shawn. Yes, Shawn is still missing, and yes, there still has been no sign of him. This benefit would be a great time to show some support for the family! Tickets are only $10 each, and you can get them either through me or via the website at http://www.shawnhornbeck.com.

The benefit is on January 3rd. I’d love to see you all come to the benefit to show some support!

Star Trek Nemesis

Ok. I saw this. It was pretty good. If you’re a star trek fan, go see it. Otherwise wait for the video. While it’s pretty good, I don’t consider this one one of the best movies. It wasn’t Really like an episode, like so many of the next generation movies.

My friends that saw it thought it was great. I thought it was good, but not like the greatest movie I saw. I’d give it 3 out of 5 stars if I had to grade this one.

how interesting.

One of my friends saruo (mike) pointed out yesterday a domain i used to own, orbital-revolution.com now points to ebay. Hehe. how interesting. I didn’t even realize that anyone would want that domain! I mean right now I’m using orbitalrevolution.com (no dash) for my magazine (which needs writers BTW, *cough*). The domain with the dash in it was the first one i registered and later found i didn’t like the dash since it was “harder” to type. Come to think of it, I think OR was the second domain I ever registered. It’s been a while. ;)

Anyways, thought that was kinda interesting. Yes I know I’m wierd. :)

What is cool? How do you define cool?

Looking at all the sites nowadays that are “cool”, if you don’t know flash, you don’t get to be “cool”. Or so it seems. I guess good ol’ fashioned design doesn’t cut it as “cool” anymore.

I still think that good layout and masterful placement of key elements is “cool”. You Really don’t need flash. Unfortunately, everyone seems to want it. Of course with Flash MX, things are getting much easier to do. Back in the day, when um…flash didn’t exist, design was a challenge. Nowadays, it seems like “insert logo here” and blammo, you’ve got a flash site.

I need to brush up on my Flash skills. Man…I need more time.

So..Like…

Ok, so this year I decide I will participate in the “Secret Santa” game at work. Now, I’m all for the Christmas spirit. But damn if buying a 5 dollar gift isn’t hard! Sure there’s plenty out there, but um… it’s tough to find something that’s Really cool. Someone suggested I check out Walgreens. Man, I never thought of that. All this time I was going to Walmart. ;) I’m thinking next year…No secret santa for me.
