I URGE you not to read this entry if you not watched the movie already. There are SPOILERS which may (or may not) ruin the movie for you! What follows are some theories and conclusions which I’ve come up with for the movie.
Let’s start off with a few things:
- The train station was Mobil, an anagram for “Limbo”. Makes sense since this is the “world between worlds”. Didn’t strike me at first, but when I realized it later, that was kinda cool.
- The metamorphosis of the Oracle was pretty good. I was glad they did it that way instead of acting as if it were the same Oracle.
- The button in the elevator said “HELP” but the P was scratched away. At least that’s what I thought, hence it would look like “Hel” the club they were going to.
- The Merovingian continues to entertain me. I love his character, but hate him at the same time.
- I would have to say the Twins indeed “died” in Reloaded. Mainly because I never saw them anywhere (and I was looking) and they aren’t in the credits. (as far as I could tell anyways)
- The whole Smith in the real world thing/Neo being able to stop the Sentinels in the real world thing. I like to think of it as such: In essence, Neo is still a program. As a matter of a fact, everyone connected to the Matrix is a program. If you “jack in” then you are connecting your consciousness into the Matrix. Thus, whatever happens to you in the Matrix, happens in real life. When Bane was “assimilated” by Smith, whatever program or virus attached with Smith was also inserted to Bane’s actual brain. I would imagine that there may have been a “battle of wills” if you will, and Smith won. Hence, now Smith is in “the real world”. Inevitable as Smith says. As for Neo, it’s the same thing. Let’s not forget that in essence, Neo is an anomaly in the Matrix. He takes that with himself into the real world. Therefore, he would somehow be able to destroy Sentinels through some type of connection between the two. Such as sending a self-destruct into a Sentinel. It may sound outrageous, but let’s not forget this is Sci-Fi. Anything is possible. Free your mind.
- People have asked why didn’t Trinity just stay dead in Reloaded? How in the world would Neo have gotten to the Source if she didn’t navigate the ship? It was pre-destined that she would die when they reached the Source. (In my mind at least)
- The sky was blue when Trinity and Neo went up high. Of course it is. In The Matrix, Morpheus explained that humans “blackened the sky”. He never said they destroyed it. It would only make sense that the atmosphere was truly intact.
- Persephone has incredible cleavage. (did you notice? I noticed you noticing.)
- Seraph being called “Judas”. While this would be an interesting story, it’s rather irrelevant. That story has nothing to do with Neo and Trinity, which is essentially what the trilogy is about. Let’s not lose sight of that fact.
- For those of you who were sad that Trinity died, it was inevitable. Yes, it’s sad, but it had to happen.
- Who is Sati, Really?
- Did Smith “assimilate” everyone in the Matrix? Including humans? I believe this to be so. With that many Smiths in the world it would only be a matter of time. He was out of control, and The Matrix was going to Hell. I just find it rather ironic that Smith himself became a virus, something he seemed to rather despise in The Matrix.
- The Club Hel fight scene. Loved it, but I thought it was missing a Propellerheads song. (i.e. Something similar to the Lobby Scene in The Matrix.)
- Final Fight: Neo vs. Smith. It was so Dragonball Z, I couldn’t help but love it. If you’ve never watched any Dragonball Z, watch it, you’ll see where the idea probably came from for that Final Fight.
On that note, I touched on a few things. Here’s a few other things I’ve been meaning to cover:
- I feel the scene in Club Hel was too short. The entire dialogue with the Merovingian and the “trio” was too short. I felt there was more and must have been cut.
- How did they manage to get Neo “jacked in” when he was “WiFi” into “limbo” when they came out after talking to the Oracle?
- The religious insinuations. Yes, Seraph was labeled as “Judas”; Yes, Neo was called a “Messiah” by Smith. Yes, Neo sacrificed himself. This does not make Neo the “christ figure”. I believe that people are reading a little too much into it. Of course, there may have been some idea of that, but I think people take it a little too far.
I have plenty more, but I can’t recall all of them right now. I think I have to watch the movie yet again in order to give more thoughts. All in all, I loved the movie. Unfortunately I don’t think everyone will agree.
(updated)
- The Oracle is the mother of the Matrix, in case you didn’t know.
- I believe Persephone is the manifestation of Love in the Matrix. Just as the Merovingian is the manifestation of Evil. Kind of mythic in that respect.
