Let’s try again

I’ve been working on a new layout. I’ve been working on some tips and tricks that I have received from Chris’ Site, and although the CSS Validator says my CSS is good to go, I don’t think it’s very efficient. I’ve learned quite a bit over these past couple days about CSS.

So once I get around to redoing all the pages, the site will be looking Really different. I’m still not sure if what I’m working on now is going to be what will show up, but hey, it wouldn’t be fun. :)

So how are you doing? :)

  1. I kinda like the layout.  Don’t change it too much.  Who’s that picture in the top right corner, anyway?

  2. Hey yoshi- just installed your latest revision of the Recently Commented plugin, and I’m having a slight problem.  For the summary, it’s only showing ONE word, which looks kinda funny.  It looks like it’s set to 5 words in the file, but I could be misreading it.  Can you give me some direction on where to go fix this?

  3. I’ve tried it a bunch of different ways (double quotes, single quotes, no quotes, etc) and word limit is definitely not working for some reason, as you can see on my site. It’s still only showing one word.

Also, what’s the code to add am or pm to the timestamp?

  4. Hmm I’m gonna have to look at that again. not sure why yours would be any different.

Let me take a look at that code.

  5. It’s not a big deal for now…I’ve actually just removed the summary words altogether and it still accomplishes what I need.

  6. You know, now that I think about it, I’m using the word limiter that Rick made. It’s all part of the core files.  It should work though, unless there’s something different about your build than mine?

  7. Very possible.  I got a build that Rick sent me via email on the day EE was released, because I couldn’t get the download to work from the website.  I haven’t updated since then, and I know there have been changes. However, the word limit seemed to be working fine on the first version of your plugin. Were you using the same word limit method on the first version?

  8. No, actually on prior versions, i used my own word limiter. I can just send you the code that I used for that. then you can just replace the line that limits the words with it.

  9. cool.  although I think I like the way it looks without the words anyway. (the way it I have it on my site now). kind of a minimalist look, but still conveys the information.

  10. Hey Yoshi- where can I get the code for that live preview thing you have? That’s pretty neat.

  11. I decided I’m not going to change anything. LOL I might work on another skin though. Actually I’m pretty sure I will. :cowtiny:

  12. Hey Yoshi, here’s a silly question (so silly I was too embarrassed to post it in the EE forums :red: )

I’ve been running a version of EE that I got on the first day it was released. I just downloaded a newer version…how do I upgrade without losing my blog entries and templates and such?

  13. ACtually you should be able to just copy over all your system files and still keep everything ok in your entries, etc. Rick puts what needs to be replaced in there, but since you’re still “old school” i’d just replace them all.

Just don’t replace the files in the system directory (like the config.php!). i would replace all the directories, lik core, cp, modules, etc.
