So I just got done reading The Da Vinci Code. I also read Angels and Demons as well. (for those of you who didn’t know, Da Vinci Code is the 2nd book for the Robert Langdon series) I was completely enthralled! I simply love these books! I love stories that have the mystery where you Really want to figure it out before the main character does.
I understand, there are two things on the horizon: Dan Brown is currently working on the third Robert Langdon book, and it appears that there may be a movie being made of The Da Vinci Code. I understand that Ron Howard is directing the movie, and they plan to cast Russell Crowe as Robert Langford and Kate Beckinsale as Sophie. Intriguing in my mind. Personally, I’d like to know if it’s Really going to be filmed. They always do this. ; )
I was wondering what people’s thoughts were on The Da Vinci Code. Maybe start up a small discussion about Dan Brown books. : )
I also see on the horizon this year is The Bourne Supremacy the 2nd film in the Bourne Series. I rather liked The Bourne Identity. I read the book years ago, and don’t remember much of it now. I guess I’ll have to pick up the 2 books to see how they compare.

Somehow I can’t imagine Russell Crowe as Langdon. In my head he looks more distinguished…
For me, the Code and Angels & Demons were quick reads and were compelling to read, but Brown employs several annoying literary techniques and his books are formulaic. I also finished his third book, which bears a striking resemblance to the other two. No Langdon this time and it’s different subject matter, but still very similar.
I can’t picture Crowe as Landon, but I’m not sure who I’d cast. Maybe Hugh Jackman??? I’m not really wowed by Brown’s writing style either, but he’s written about secret sects I do have some interest in. Both the Knights Templar and the Illuminati are favorite topics of mine and whether or not the information in his tales is *completely* factual, it still makes for some interesting reading.
I agree with his writing methods. But they are indeed fast reads so that helps. I love the subject of the Knights Templar, Priory of Sion, and the Illuminati. All intriguing stuff.
I’m just amazed at how the locations the secret rites are factual. I of course could never confirm those rites, but it is all compelling reading nonetheless. I’m definitely thinking about picking up deception point and digital fortress.
As for the role of Robert Langdon, I thought Sam Neill would be a pretty good choice. He does a pretty good job of being the scholar. I’m not sure who would be Sophie. But the suggestion of Jean Reno as Fache was superb in my opinion.
I’m thinking about picking up the Holy Blood, Holy Grail book as well. Anyone have thoughts on that?
And I *still* have to go see Passion…
I finished both those books a while back and thought they were great. They may not be the best written in literary terms but for me they were written perfectly. I like the whole concept of small chapters and each being a cliffhanger. It really kept me in the story. It was like watching a movie.
I’m planning on picking up his other books eventually as well. I think Sam Neill would be a perfect choice to portray Langdon. Even Harrison Ford would be good as the comparison is made in the book. Or maybe Julian Sands with the short hair look now that he has aged a bit.
All I can say is I hope they don’t mess up the movie.
i love the idea of jean reno playing fache… as for langdon, hmm, christopher walken maybe?
You know, Christopher Walken was suggested as well. But you know, as much as i love his work, walken as langdon would just make him… creepy.
