Well, it’s been a long time coming, and I’ve got some new features I’d like to implement into this site (like a software page to have all up-to-date info on my modules and plugins), and well, the site has been the same for more than a year now. So I’ve decided that I’m gonna have to redesign the look of this site. I don’t think I’ll be using skins on this site though. Look forward to something new coming soon!

A walk in the city
Yesterday we went to Seattle for one of our friends’ birthday. It was a lot of fun, although I could have lived without all the walking we did in the hot sun. Man it was hot! We walked around Pike Place Market, and of course, had to go to the Garlic Garden. We bought some original whipped garlic and whipped garlic with jalapenos. It’s sooo good. You can order from the website as well. They’ve got some recipes you can try as well. I’d recommend it!
We went to the Crab Pot for lunch/dinner and the birthday feast. It was good! I had the Crab and Salmon, and Meesh had Halibut and chips (it’s always safe and it was good too!). I actually wouldn’t have minded the Halibut, but I can’t go to a place called The Crab Pot and not order Crab! :) They spread it out on the table on top of butcher’s paper, and they give you a wooden hammer to crack everything open. The big bib helps too. :) (I’ll get a picture of me with the bib soon. )
All in all, it was fun. Seattle is always fun. Just the walking around kills ya. The steps going up to Pike Place Market…oy! There are a lot of them. Someday I’ll actually count them all, just to say how many there are.
If you ever find yourself in the Seattle area, you must go to Pike Place Market. They’ve got tons of stores there and well it’s just fun!
On This Day Plugin v3.0.1 (minor bug fix)
On This Day Plugin v3.0.1 is released. This is a bug fix update. If you were using the conditional, it wasn’t displaying anything if there were no results. Fixed!
You can download the bug fix from the Downloads page.
LinkList Module 1.0
Linklist Module 1.0 has been released! Hopefully all the bugs are fixed, and the upgrade should go real easy!
Find the ZIP file in the Downloads section of this website!
CHANGES File:
05/28/05 – 1.0 Release
Bug Fixes/Changes
- Added Linklist User agent to be sent when RFC 3229 update check.
- Fixed issue with Blogrolling not importing URLs when importing via OPML.
- Fixed Issues with the updated time not being displayed correctly. this should show up correctly now.
- Added ability in the exp:linklist:checkupdated tag to show debugging output. (silent=”false”) this should help those people who are having issues with this tag running superslow, and finding out which sites are slow, so they can deal with those links appropriately.
- Fixed issues with blogs not showing up as updated. This had a lot to do with localization, but after quite a few test runs, it looks to be working properly. Please be sure that you have the exp:linklist:checkupdated tag running on a regular basis. If you don’t, then no sites will ever show up as updated.
TODO File:
- Categories for Links. I’m still fighting myself on this one, if it’s truly necessary.
- Keywords, ala del.icio.us and furl. Actually these will be tags as the term coined by technorati, but I am calling them keywords not to confuse people with EE tags and also to keep with the naming convention started by Andy Crouch with the EE Keywords Plug-in (http://www.culture-makers.com/keywords/). This would come in very handy for those of you who wish to use the Technorati tags within RSS files. That’s the idea anyways. I’m just simply confused about the tag thing myself. :p
- Possible API for the linklist. This will enable you to sync your links with del.icio.us. That’s the idea anyways.
- Member linklists. This will enable members of your site to create their own link page, hosted by your site.
- Submit a Link feature. Members (and/or normal visitors) will be able to submit their link for inclusion in your linklist. This would have them submitting the link, then you will have to approve it before it is actually shown on your linklist. (i.e. pending status.) – I’m actually on the fence about this. Is this Really even needed? I’m just not sure Really. I see a potential for link spamming, but if the default is set to pending, and you have to approve the link, that shouldn’t be a problem Really. Thoughts? I’d like to hear some feedback on this feature.
- Clickthrough counting. This will count how many time someone has clicked through on your link. Again this is one of those that I think would be a good idea, but not sure if it’s needed. (or wanted!) Feedback appreciated.
Another new skin
Because I’m never Really satisfied with how this site looks, I’ve already created another skin, called “cloudrise”. You can select it from the skins dropdown in the menu side box. This one I created out of a necessity to change something on this site that I thought needed it. I will never be satisfied with how the site looks I guess. I’ll love a design for about an hour and then the next I’m already thinking of something new. Go figure. :)
Well, the weather has been awesome for the past couple days. I mean simply AWESOME. it’s been in the 80′s, which isn’t too hot. (of course, I did live in the desert for 2 years in southern california so I did get used to hot.) The clouds have been sparse, and Mt. Rainier looms in the distance. I love it.
I feel the need to post something.
I suddenly feel the need to post something. Random thoughts perhaps, or even just thoughts. Let’s see where this takes me.
I bought the wedding bands today. Couldn’t believe how much mine was, compared to Meesh’s band. I guess because mine’s “bigger” it’s gonna cost more. Who can say. The girl (or lady, or woman, whichever you prefer) at the jewelry store (ZALES) asked me where we were holding the ceremony, and I told her, “at the Huber’s Gasthaus“, thinking she would say “OH Really? That’s great!” (only because that seems to be the normal response to such a question.) However, instead she said, “Hmm, no, never heard of that place. I just moved in the area so I’m not too familiar with all the places here.” Ok. Um, I know it’s polite to ask and all, but she could have just asked the date instead of where if she was gonna be so NOT excited about it. It could just be me though.
So after I break the bank getting the rings (Yes, I’m a poor programmer, feel free to send me money LOL), I figured I’d get some cash from the ATM. (btw, do they still call them MAC machines in the Tri-state (NJ, NY, PA) area? Because if I say MAC machine anywhere it seems like people don’t know what the hell I’m talking about.) So I’m standing there waiting for this kid to finish his transaction. And I say kid because I felt old looking at the “class of 2004″ t-shirt he was wearing. The boy couldn’t have been even born yet when I graduated from high school. Anyways, I was standing there waiting and he’s pushing buttons, sticking his card in and out, almost seemed like he was panicking. A few minutes later, I’m still standing there, looking around to see if there was another ATM (I almost said MAC) around the area. Nope. Nothing. A freaking mall with only ATM? (dammit, I almost said MAC again.) But finally he got off the ATM and took off. He looked surprised to see me behind him, which would make sense since you Really don’t know how many people are Really behind you and Really, do you want to look back and see the face of a pretty pissed off person if you’ve been taking forever? I think not.
I took off after that. Now I remember why I don’t go to the mall or do any shopping anymore physically. It’s just weird out there.
Of course, that doesn’t even compare to the incredibly odd times when shopping for food at the supermarket. I remember the old saying that women kept sticking to about supermarkets. “A good place to meet single guys.” I suppose when a guy is attached, married, or involved in a relationship they no longer shop at the store. Not quite true. But that wasn’t my point. I digress. Have you seen the freakazoids in the supermarket nowadays? It make me recall actually this one incident where this lady from out of town went into the Safeway (MY Safeway mind you – the one I shop at all the time), bought a pair of scissors, (or a knife, I don’t remember) went down the way to the beauty salon and started stabbing this other woman repeatedly. Repeatedly! I’m not even sure if the woman being stabbed survived or not. Meanwhile, the woman being stabbed ran out the salon, and was calling for help. All this time, I can’t help but wonder what the people in the Beauty Salon were thinking. I guess no one Really wanted to help her by, oh, I don’t know, stopping the crazy lady from stabbing her. Crazy.
Of course, that only makes me think of the one CSI:NY episode where Gary Sinise turns around and says, “They heard gunshots and went TOWARDS it? They must have been out of towners.”
On This Day Plugin (3.0)
I’ve again re-written the On This Day Plugin with MUCH help from Paul. (Because he’s the man) This plugin now utilizes the Weblogs Module to actually do the parsing of information. Please unpack and put the pi.onthisday.php file in your /systems/plugins directory to get it rolling.
There is a README included with the archive. Take a look and use the example before actually trying to use it live!
New Skin
Well, decided to change the default skin to the new one, “Mountain Lake”. I’m not sure but I think it looks a little busy. If you think so, or not think so, let me know. It’s a bit different. Of course, just making this skin has given me ideas of another skin I’d like to try as well. Go figure! If you don’t see the skin, you can find the skin chooser at the bottom of this page!
On This Day Plugin (2.0) Bug-Fix
There was a small bug in the plugin that didn’t show some of the normal tags. (like {title}) Please just re-download the file if you downloaded it prior to this post.
On This Day Plugin (2.0)
i’m now releasing the On This Day Plugin version 2.0. It’s been Totally rewritten/hacked/etc. This plugin is basically a stripped down version of the exp:weblog:entries tag, so it should be quite familiar. There are a couple of things that are a bit different. Sorry that I don’t have a changes file, I’ve lost most of my old documentation and was going on just what was in the plugin itself.
To install the plugin, simply put the plugin file into your /system/plugins directory, then load up your plugin manager to view the usage for this plugin. If you have any issues or bugs, please let me know!
You can download the plugin from the Downloads Page.
