So I ask everyone this for the day. “What folksonomy/social bookmarking tool do you use, and why?” What makes the one you use better than others? Since I’ve made the Linklist manager for ExpressionEngine, I’ve often wondered about this.
I’ve only used Del.ico.us because other people used it in conjunction with the linklist. Also, because people wanted the linklist to be similar. Unfortunately of course, there is no social aspect of linklist because it is your own linklist, and is only shared by others who have access to the linklist module part of your site. (which will change in the future – members will have the ability to create their own linklist and create their own bookmarks on your site.)
Furl again I’ve used only to research for the linklist. It does look interesting however I have not Really used it much at all.
Tag Cloud I signed up for when I was creating keywords (or tags) for linklist. It’s very interesting, and I do like it, and I have to admit the look of linklist’s Keywords was based upon this concept.
Technorati I feel is probably one of the most popular ones. Although honestly, I “don’t get it”.
To be honest, I don’t get a lot of the folksonomy/social bookmarking sites. To me, it just looks like a huge community of bandwidth and server processor hogging utilities. (not that linklist isn’t a bandwidth eater… it could be if you had over 5000 links i’d think.)
So what I’d like to know are your opinions of each one. What do you think? What do you use? Feel free to take this up in the Forums too. (it’s getting a bit dusty in there and too many cobwebs are collecting)

As you know I don’t get this whole folksonomy/social bookmarking thing either. So yeah… I’m no help here. :P
I personally use http://www.blinklist.com because it is the only online service that I have found that makes accessing your saved bookmarks super fast and easy since you can star (ala gmail) both your favorite tags and links.
However, then again I am biased since I work on the team that developed BlinkList. If you get a chance to check out the site though, please let us know your thoughts since we are still very early in the evolution of where we want to take our social learning and discovery engine.
I use both del.icio.us and furl. Since furl keeps a copy of the page you’re bookmarking, I use furl to bookmark news articles, tutorials, etc. – things I may want to keep a record of. I use del.icio.us for other links. For example, I may bookmark the front page of a news website using del.icio.us, but I’ll use furl to bookmark a specific news article on that website.
blinklist looks pretty cool. I haven’t used it much quite yet, but i’ll be sure to try out more of it.
Yeah, the fact that furl caches a page is pretty nice, just in case it’s gone. I like that feature.
Yvonne, do you use delicious or furl on your site though? or do you use it because you can see how many others are linking to that page and what tags are used, etc? I’m just wondering what exactly people use delicious for aside from a social aspect of “I want to see what others are doing in relation to what i’m doing”.
