Don’t Panic!

Make sure you have your towel.

I’m real busy lately, and haven’t had a chance to post anything “real”. Just a meme here and there. But all is well, just busy.

That is all.

PB and J Sandwiches

So one day, a long time ago, I was making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. My roommate at the time was watching me make with odd enthusiasm.

So I had to ask. “What?”

“You put peanut butter on both sides of the bread.”

“Isn’t that how you normally do that?”

“No, I always put peanut butter on one side, and jelly on the other. You must really like peanut butter.”

“Oh hell yeah, I love peanut butter. But this way is the right way.”

So I present to you a poll!

9/11

I thought about making a long post, and some kind of remembrance for 9/11, however, I think that a day of silence is possibly best. Please keep those we’ve lost in 9/11 in your mind today. (as I’m sure you’re already doing.)

Another thing. I’ve started to move my memes off this blog and onto it’s own meme blog, where it should be. You will now see a new option on the top right menu called “Memes” which will take you to the new site, http://memes.haroyoshi.com.

That is all.

Adventures in grocery shopping

The other day, while at the supermarket, I ran into some incredible disregard for other people. I went to go buy some softshell tortillas for dinner. That’s all, just 1 item. So I go to the “express” aisle. You know this aisle in just about any supermarket. It’s the aisle that says “10 items or less.” Obviously the lady that was in front of me didn’t realize that this was an express aisle. Although the sign is pretty big, and I’m thinking it’s quite universal, she went into this aisle with a shopping cart full of stuff. I know what you’re thinking:

“Yoshi, why did you go into that aisle if you knew she had all that stuff?”

Yes, yes, sometimes I have that crazy thing about wanting to know why people do stupid things like this. Either that, or I was just plain stupid that day. It could be a little of both.

Regardless, there I stood with my tortilla shells, my 1 item, thinking to myself, “Holy crap, this lady has a ton of shit for the express aisle.” And I wondered if the cashier was going to say something.

I saw her look at the bunch of groceries on the conveyer belt, look up at the express aisle sign, and then looked at me with my ONE item.

So halfway through the check-in, the girl finally says to the lady, “You know this is an express aisle, you’re not supposed to have more than 15 items.”

The lady immediately looks up at the sign that’s always been there, and says, “Oh my, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize this was an express aisle. If you would have told me when I got in, I would have gone to another aisle.”

“Oh, I didn’t realize that you had so much stuff!”

Let’s stop it right here. I thought about this. And I have to agree with the cashier. There’s no way she could have known that there was so much stuff in the lady’s cart from her vantage point. So what did the lady say?

“I’m sorry, I don’t usually come to this Safeway, I shop at another one. I’m just here because I had to pick up my son in the area.”

Oh you’re killing me lady. So now, not only did you have reckless disregard for other people, your son (who I finally noticed hanging out behind the cart) also did not have the brain to say, “hey mom, this is an express aisle.”

After the lady was gone, and all checked out the cashier felt so bad, and apologized for the wait. I told her no problem, and probably would have continued the conversation, but the guy behind me looked like he was in a serious rush, and I didn’t want him to wait any longer than I did for my ONE item.

Something new to play with

Okay, so pMachine just released Expression Engine 1.5 out to the masses. So now, I’m playing around with it. Meanwhile, things might get kooky around here, and I might be delayed on posting a few things (like the TT). Just be patient with me.

Here are some new features that I didn’t mention over at my other site:

- A bulletin board system, that as far as I can tell is similar to the post bulletin feature from myspace, however, it seems at default, normal members cannot post bulletins. But I haven’t explored this one fully yet.

- A member import utility. This is a definite “about time” feature.

- Multiple Category groups per weblog. I have to say that this is one feature that is definitely useful. I don’t know how many times I’ve used some of the same categories for multiple weblogs, but didn’t need others, and just ended up making a new category group. Definite bonus here.

Again, there are plenty of new changes in EE 1.5. To take a look at them all, go to the Change Log

NOTE: If you’re using any extensions that rewrite the Template page (Read: Template Management with images), then you have to disable it in order to see the Template Preferences Manager.

Expression Engine 1.5 Released

For those of you who didn’t know, Expression Engine 1.5 has been released. If you’re running the Linklist module, this should be a seamless update, I encountered no problems with the new version.

Some features I’ll highlight for you that are pretty nice:

- New Simple Commerce Module. I know plenty of folks have been totally waiting for this. You can now interface directly with paypal. It’s pretty exciting!

- Template Preferences Manager. This is definitely a great feature. Now you can mass change options for your templates, even if they’re in different template groups!

- HTTP Authentication to templates. This is pretty cool. Just remember though that passwords are passed through in clear text using this method unless you’re using a secure connection!

There are plenty more changes and fixes in this version, just check out all the changes at the Change Log.

Tag Game on Random Words

So I have been tagged by Jill to play a game where the last person gives you 5 words and you say the first thing you think of…then you tag others who then continue the tagging game. This sounds pretty interesting, so here we go:

2. bed : Sleep

3. hungry : For food!

4. blinds : Light

5. alarm : Clock

The next five random words are:

1. Chute

2. Picnic

3. Concert

4. World

5. Beach

The tagged bloggers are:

R.I.P. Steve Irwin

Wow, so if you haven’t heard in the news, Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter was killed by a stingray today.

I’m just simply shocked, and I’m in disbelief over this incident. It’s very sad to know that there will no longer be anymore Crocodile Hunter shows, and to hear about his adventures saving the various animals of the world.

Steve Irwin, rest in peace.

This picture of the Old Man in the Mountain in NH was taken a while back, in 1990 or so. He’s long since crumbled away, but he still lives on in my pictures. This picture was taken during a road/camping trip to NH.
