Mmm? Are we talking about the IP address to get to my site?

And I wouldn’t wish Tier 1 tech support on anyone…

Actually, that info is a hugh help. Thank you. It does explain that there was a change and recently. A crash and restore from backup is also a big indicator as to why there would be a descrepency in the config. If the the server had only a old back-up to recover from or only a partial back-up that would explain how the config was left incomplete whether human error or the back-up had info of a non-complete website. Unfortunately the info doesn’t answer the question of whos info is old. I’d like to give my ISP the benefit of the doubt but it’s the primary telco here so that means it’s large and monopolistic. Therefore not terribly concerned with the .0001%(i.e. evanescing.org). And I am not about to let myself experience an hour of tier 1 techsupport in order to get to someone to take a look at the DNS record.

Pandora what is your DNS server IP? Maybe I can bypass this whole problem…

TC, what you’re seeing with the cPanel page is correct. that happens with all name based virtual domains. (shared hosting) so that’s nothing we can do. because the server is looking for for the name evanescing.org you’ll always get the “there’s no website configured at this address” thing.

I did some digging around (absolutely no pun intended there for you techie types) and found that the settings are fine. There are some kooky settings for the DNS there, but nothing out of super ordinary that would cause some issues.

if there were some issues with the server in the middle of the month I would suspect that the name servers you’re using TC are caching the info, and could be bringing some funkiness to you.

that’s my first impression at least. :)

feel free to IM me at psychodaisy2 (yim) or psychodaisy on googletalk. :)

Actually, the server which housed my site died in the middle of the month. Lemme see. Um. July 16? Something like that. They had to restore it from a backup.

Maybe that’s the issue?

GG, I hope thats the issue, it makes it easy. Also I tried to load the page from the IP directly and it shot me to a CPanel notice page, telling me that a site has been configured for this address. But when you make a request via browser it asks for the site on port 80, and is shunted to correct page to be viewed. So I should have seen the same thing as I do when loading evanescing.org so there is an entry missing somewhere. If it is a matter of my ISP DNS needing a flush. Then this config of the site I am seeing now should be recent. When was the site created? More than a month? If so then the normal DNS seetings on the ISp side should have taken care of that problem. Of course my ISP could be really dumb and have their settings really off like set to “never”. But highly unlikely.
