So every year, we join Sunday night mixed league bowling. Today was the first meeting to establish the rules and stuff about the rest of the bowling year. We bowl for 31 weeks, so yeah, it’s a pretty long time. (at least I think so!)
Anyways, crazy enough, the lane charges didn’t increase for the season, however, the USBC increased their renewal fee to $17. I guess that’s not much in retrospect, but last year it cost around $14 if I recall correctly. I’m just realizing that league bowling is a very expensive fun time event. Each week we gotta dish out $9.50 for each person. So for couples, of course that’s $19 a week. Which I’m guessing isn’t that much from what I hear other say. But at the end of the year we’ve paid out $589 bucks for the whole season.
Someone told me, “Yeah, but you can earn that back in earnings at the end of the year.” Dude. Hello, we’re not the PBA here. We’re league bowling in a normal town. This isn’t a national championship. LOL I think the top bowler for the season got like $50 bucks and a patch/watch or whatever. (oh wait, I got the watch for a highest handicap game.) Anyways, that’s hardly $589.
Of course, we get other priviledges like $1.50 games when we’re not league bowling. So on our days off from bowling, we can bowl more. :P No, Seriously, we enjoy it, because we get to see people we would probably never see otherwise, but holy cow, some days, you just don’t want to bowl.
As a side note, this brings up a friend whose son is just starting to play football. He’s paying $150 to play football. Wow. I sure as hell don’t remember it costing so much to play, but you know, those pads cost quite a bit of money. Crazy!
So how about you? You have any hobbies/interests you do every week? Do tell, curious minds (like mine) want to know!

Yikes, that’s a big expense to be dishing out each week. Right now I don’t have any expensive hobbies (unless you call being on the internet 24/7 a hobby).. hmm perhaps it is.
I used to have horses and they cost me a fortune! which is why I had to ‘get real’ and let them go. Stabling, hay/food, vets bills, blacksmith, insurance etc.. was easily $300 – $400 per month per horse. I had 2 of them back then.
wow, that’s insane! One of my friends has horses, and she tells me all the time, “Oh, it’s not so bad.” I’ll have to call her on that. :P That’s pretty crazy to be spending that kind of money! although horses are cool.
My boyfriend-at-the-time and I did league bowling last year. It was a ton of fun, but definetaly an expensive passtime.
Now-a-days I do a kickboxing class every week. It’s awesome, but I get lots of bruises on my shins haha.
Gosh I remember when it used to cost $.75 for 3 games in league bowling. I used to love to bowl. Started as a Jr. bowler at 9 or 10. Used to let the Wench and her sister bowl at Hickam AFB with their friends for like 60 cents a game.
Then I took up golf which is hella expensive! But when I first learn it, it only cost like $7.oo at this one golf course that my husband played at almost everyday.
Hi Yoshi! It’s Wenches okasan.
Harro! :)
Well before I moved, standard stuff. Movies, and gaming.
After I moved. The net, usually to watch movies and tv.
LOL i do have to say that you spend a lot of time checking out people’s butts while bowling.
But sometimes, you see too much. lol
I do like bowling though. I love it! Now of course, if I could actually bowl better, than that might help. hehe
Atleast you are getting out there and doing something. Many people don’t.
My husband took me bowling on our first date, because he :ahem: loves to bowl and was on a league in school. I say it was because it gave him ample opportunity to check out my booty. Is this a perk for you as well?
Nobody ever said you had to be good at bowling to have fun hehe, otherwise I’d have been bored out of my mind :P
OMG, when did you play football and how did I miss that? What on earth did you do with that silver jacket? You wore it under your pads didn’t you? Enquiring minds want to know! :p
