MySpace – is it for kids, or just anyone?

Ryan put on his list about MySpace pretty much as a haven for those under the age of 21. While I agree with this sentiment, I think people are Really losing sight of what MySpace was originally intended to be.

MySpace in the old days was a haven for musicians to display their music. While over the years, it’s changed (a LOT), I still think it’s that same haven, because that’s why I had an account in the first place. To keep up with my friends band.

One thing about MySpace however, is I’ve met a lot of old folks that I would probably never have heard from again, only because they either found me on MySpace or I found them. Granted, there are those people who find me through this site too. MySpace is a social site, just like Orkutz or Facebook, and all the other crazy social sites. It’s popularity is just incredible.

I also use MySpace because of the popularity. It’s one way to get attention. Post a bulletin to your friends and watch how it cascades into a long stream of forwards. When my wife’s co-worker’s daughter was missing, I sent out a bulletin with information for her website, and guess what, we found her, and all because of that bulletin. Amazing how that works.

In many ways, using MySpace is just wrong. I cannot believe the amount of sexual predators on that site. But in other ways, MySpace does good work. It’s a yin-yang thing I think.

What do you think of MySpace? Is it a haven for the underground teenagers? Should adults just refrain from even opening up an account? What’s your opinion?

You find a used pad in the bathroom – now what?

Ok, so leave it to Breigh to inspire me on something to write about again.

Apparently, someone left their pad in the public bathroom. Ok, first of all, WTF? Aren’t there better ways to dispose of them? I know my wife goes through this every month, and you know, if I never saw her buying pads, I’d swear she didn’t use them. But that’s not just it. Apparently, a supervisor sent a notice on everyone’s computer: Ladies, someone is having their period and has left a used pad in the loo, please remove it! I think I love Breigh’s response to that: I know one thing, I could have been ready to piss my pants and you couldn’t have paid me enough to get up and walk towards the toilet at that moment.

But I digress.

What would YOU do if this happened to you? I mean Seriously. How in the world would you go about trying to either find out who did it, or letting people know (quietly or not so quietly) that they need to “take care of it”?

I’m very curious to find out what people have to say about this. Seriously.

100 Facts in 100 days – Fact 21

I haven’t done this in a while. I”ve been slipping on having some “real” posts. Shame!

21: I have “hobbit” feet. That’s right, you’ve heard it correctly. I have hair on my toes. I think my wife gets a kick out of them every time she looks at them. I’m not sure what the fascination is honestly, but she’s not the first person to have a chuckle or even say something about it. Something about excessive hair on toes brings out the giddiness in everyone.

RSS Reader

Ok so Ryan had talked about aggregators sometime in the recent past. For the longest time, while on my Mac, I would use NetNewsWire. I mainly did this because I could synchronize my subscriptions with NewsGator as well as FeedDemon on my windows box.

Lately though, I’ve been Really falling in love with Google Reader. If you haven’t been using it, you should try it. Not only can you just stick it on your google start page, it works Really well, much like a normal aggregator that might cost you some money. (FeedDemon and NetNewsWire are not free.)

So what aggregators do you use?

It’s Sunday already

So how did you folks take the time change? I know, it’s still a bit crazy for me too. And every time I look at the clock, I see the time and think, “but it’s Really one hour earlier.” I can’t wait to stop doing that already. Have you guys ever had an funny experience with the time change? Please share. I remember one time going to work, only I was one hour early because I Totally forgot about the time change. That Really sucked.

I can’t believe the weekend is over. What’s up with that. I propose we have 5 day weekends and 2 day work weeks. Oh, and let’s not forget to make 1 day = 50 hours. Now how much will that rock?

Tonight, after a crappy night of bowling (Totally sucked, we lost 3 to 1), we stopped at the Black Bear Diner that just opened up around here. You can read all about it over at hello! Food. It was some Really good food!

Well, now that I’ve completely switched back over to ExpressionEngine, I’m feeling good about it. And it Really doesn’t have anything to do with any security issues with WordPress. I like wordpress. Lots. But now that I’ve finally gotten moved over to hello! Network (inspired by Danalyn’s Shitty Network), EE works much better.

hello! Photo has undergone a remake, due to the changes, and guess what? Yes, that’s right folks, hello! yoshi will most likely undergo a change as well. I know people love this design, but I’ve got some ideas. And it requires blowing up this site. More details later. Maybe.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

Ok, so you may or may not have been noticing some changes around here. I haven’t been posting much here. I have to admit it’s not due to lack of ideas or stuff to post about, it’s because I’ve been busy with some changes.

In the future, I’ll be converting all my sites back to ExpressionEngine, re-opening my EE-development blog (including a new name! – whoa I’m so copying pMachine!), and finally open up the hello! Network. Finally.

Unfortunately, to get this site up on ExpressionEngine as soon as I can, I don’t think I’ll be taking any archives over, until I get around to creating a WordPress => ExpressionEngine import module. The wordpress export xml looks pretty straightforward, and I think I shouldn’t have problems making a module to do this, it’ll just take time is all. Which is always the bottleneck, right? Not enough time.

I know that wordpress has an export to Movable Type, but it’s not working for me, and well, there are some errors. I’m not going to try to figure it out. But if someone has an export solution, then by all means, please someone let me know!

Please don’t forget to check out my new site, hello! Food.

EllisLab – New name, same company

For those of you who haven’t been paying attention, while the site was undergoing some major changes yesterday, pMachine suddenly became a new company. EllisLab. The change is appropriate. pMachine is a product, and while back when it was in production it made sense to call the company pMachine, they Really do a lot more than that now. Thus was born EllisLab and it’s sister sites: Expression Engine, EngineHosting, and CodeIgniter.

The sites have received a new look as well, courtesy of Jesse Bennett-Chamberlain. I have to say that I Really like his design, and he’s definitely a top notch. Congratulations to him for being able to redesign the new look of a great company.

Apparently from the post that Rick mentions in the latest news, all these sites are now running on one installation of ExpressionEngine. This doesn’t Really surprise me, since I know Shitty Network is all run all on one installation and my own websites (of which I had about 6) were running on one installation. What surprises me is that Paul made this easy to accomplish by doing something, which may be released in the future. Now, I’m all ready to see how that will work out!

The EllisLab site also hints at other new projects that they are cooking up. Well, I’m pretty curious to know what they are, especially since they come up with some Really great products.

What’s in store for EllisLab? Who knows, but I do know one thing. It’ll probably kick ass.
