Because I cannot do it sometimes

Ok, so I was persuaded by Pandora to at least give going to Barnes and Noble tonight a chance by getting dressed at least. So I did. and I jumped in the car immediately. And I drove to B&N. And I saw that the parking was full, and there was no where to park. No big deal, there’s plenty around. Then… I saw the line.

Holy crap people, it’s raining and the line is outside? Well, I wasn’t going to wait in the rain in a line for probably about 2 hours just get a book that I will have delivered to my front door in the morning.

So, I went to McD’s, got a chicken nugget meal and came home. Oh I got gas too. And let tell you, I never thought we’d get back to under 3 bucks! 2.96 a gallon, what a steal. Seriously.

Also, I wanted everyone to know that I made a pretty good instructional post on How to eat Ramen over at hello! Food. You should Really check it out, only because it made some people comment who never have before, and well, it’s pretty darn instructional. Seriously.

What is it about the rain?

You may or may not know this, but I’m one of those people who listen to certain types of music according to the weather. Not always mind you, but there are reasons to listen to certain types of music, according to the type of day I’m having.

While this may sound odd, I think it also helps to set the mood. I think this is particularly important on rainy days. What is it about the rain that makes me listen to certain types of music?

There are different types of rainy days. If you’ve seen the movie Forrest Gump, he explains the different types of rain he encountered while serving his tour in Vietnam: We been through every kind of rain there is. Little bitty stingin’ rain… and big ol’ fat rain. Rain that flew in sideways. And sometimes rain even seemed to come straight up from underneath.

Today is a dark rainy day. Not in the meaning that it’s depressing or sad. Just dark. I know that most rainy days are dark. But this is a different kind of dark. Days like today, I am simply reminded of a show I just obsess over. Perhaps it’s also one of the reasons why I live in Washington state: Twin Peaks.

Before it got Really crazy and weird (just about any show after the first season), I loved it. “Who killed Laura Palmer?” But today reminds of the pilot episode, when good old Pete Martell (Jack Nance) said, “She’s dead… wrapped in plastic.”

So what do I listen to on days like today? Nothing else but the soundtrack to Twin Peaks. Actually I listen to the soundtrack from the movie, Fire Walk With Me. The theme song is especially appropriate for this type of rainy day. Something about Angelo Badalamenti’s music soothes me I think. It’s definitely a song I’d put into the soundtrack of my life.

Of course, I could just be a Really weird cookie.

The end is near

Well folks, the end of Harry Potter, is just about here. I’ve received notification from Amazon.com and I’ve checked the UPS tracking, and lo behold it’s already in my neck of the woods as of 4:15am this morning. Which is to say, how many UPS workers who ordered the book from amazon have already read and leaked it out a day early on the internet? Seriously. That goes for bookstores too.

So, any of you faithful readers have any theories of what the end will be like?

Jess has put together some Harry Potter spoilers that are… not exactly true… but very funny! You can even contribute your own Harry Potter ending in the comments there too!

Ladonna put together a list of Harry Potter predictions in her Thursday Thirteen Harry Potter Edition. Some very interesting ideas there. You should probably check it out if you haven’t already!

Those are the only sites I’ve thought to look at spoilers for. Because you know I don’t want to Really ruin my experience of reading the book.

I think I’ll even resist the temptation to read the last page of the book first when I get it! Seriously!

How to eat ramen

This is yet another installment of my “how to eat… series. Today, I’ll be showing you how to prepare and actually eat ramen. Now, I’m not talking about the cheap-o Top Ramen or Maruchan Ramen noodles.

I’m not even talking about the “instant ramen that comes in dehydrated blocks of noodles. I’m talking about “real ramen. I give you exhibit A. What you’re seeing here is a bag of “real ramen, and what I mean by that is that the ramen noodles are “fresh and not dehydrated.

Inside you’ll find 3 packets of ramen noodles, with 3 packets of soy sauce based soup base. None of this is powder folks.

Now, first you want to put the soup base in your bowl, as show in exhibit C and D. Once you have that set up, you can start boiling your water and getting ready to put the noodles in the water.

Once you get your water to a rolling boil, insert your ramen noodles. Because the ramens are not dehydrated blocks (yay!), it won’t take very long to cook them. You’re talking maybe 3 minutes. you want to be able to cook them well for 3 minutes because they are very starchy and it’s a good thing to get rid of that. Here’s a short video on what the boiling ramen should look like:

After your 3 minutes are up, you want to drain your noodles well, and make sure most of the water is out of them. You don’t want to rinse them at all. There’s no need to do so. Then make sure you put hot water into the ramen bowl with the soup base, and now you’ll have a bowl of soup.

Carefully drop the noodles into the soup. Then you’re done making ramen! It’s rather very simple. Once you are done, feel free to add any toppings you’d like, I’m particularly fond of sliced boiled eggs, bamboo shoots, nori (seaweed), and naruto, which is a swirly type of Kamaboko. You can see it in the end result below:

What follows from this time is an educational video, brought to you by yours truly. Please keep an open mind when viewing this. The slurping is perfectly normal.
