Tuesday Tunes #2

It just seems like lately I’ve been on a super kick about Northern Exposure. I think it started with me seeing Season One of the show on DVD for 9.99. Then I got Season 2 and 3. I’ve been watching them, and man, I miss that show. I’ll have to get the rest of the seasons one of these days.

Of course it doesn’t help that I also went to Roslyn, WA this past weekend, and took some pictures of the town, and the cemetery. Before it was known as the place where Northern Exposure was shot, it was also famous as a coal mining town, and it’s cemetery. The cemetery is broken up into many ethnic and fraternal groups and is quite fascinating. I know it may sound weird and crazy, but I do have a fascination with cemeteries. I’m not fanatic or anything, but honestly, I just love reading some of the old tombstones, especially when they can date back to pre-1900’s. I just have a sense of calmness when I visit cemeteries, don’t ask me why. It’s certainly not because I can see dead people, since I can’t!

Anyways, with all this Northern Exposure fanaticism (yes I’m a fanatic when it comes to Northern Exposure), I thought this weeks Tuesday Tune would be a song from the soundtrack, it’s When I Grow Too Old To Dream by the Nat King Cole Trio. Enjoy!

100 Facts in 100 days – Fact 26

26. I saved a man’s life. I found my old list of “100 things about me you didn’t know” and I’ll probably use a lot of that for this list. Anyways, yes, it’s true, I (and a coworker) saved a man’s life. Many would attribute it to me, but I don’t think so, I was just in the right place at the right time. I’ll paint the picture for you. Imagine…

I’m outside the Acute Care Clinic (ACC), and yes, I was smoking. It was about 6:30 in the morning. I was just getting done with 24 hour duty, having slept all night in the ACC. Suddenly, I hear a marine yell out, “Man down! Man down!” and with amazing speed (which surprised me!) I looked around and saw a group of marines in the nearby softball field all gathered around someone. I quickly opened the door to the ACC and yelled to the first person I saw, “there’s a marine down out here, I’ll need help!” and so we both ran out into the field to see exactly what was going on.

When we got through the crowd of marines, we finally saw that a Top Gunny had suddently collapsed right after they had gotten here from jogging. My coworker slapped him around, and asked him, “Are you ok? Hello?” What happened next is one thing that I’ll never forget for the rest of my life, I think. A marine, in the whiniest voice said, “No, doc, of course he’s not ok!” I think I just about thought I was going to burst laughing, but you know, that would be too insensitive. Later, my coworker admitted he wanted to laugh too. But please realize, the first thing we learn is that you have to determine LOC (Level of Consciousness) when you get into a situation like this. Of course we knew he wasn’t going to answer. He was in cardiac arrest. His heart stopped pumping. So immediately, we ordered the marines to gently lift him and bring him in the ACC.

From there, it was all typical hospital stuff. We managed to revive the Top and he was just fine after that. There’s a bit more to this part of the story, but no one wants to hear about the crazy things that happen while you’re doing chest compressions. A bit of cardiac care and he was off to spend many more years of life. For a while, we were the talk of the town, until someone else was saved or some other tragedy happened. But I will never forget what the doctor said about that day. “If it wasn’t for that smoking corpsman, he would have never made it.” While I’m not saying it was a good thing that I smoked at the time, I just got the warm fuzzies thinking that I made a difference in someone else’s life.

Pretty neat huh? Yeah I don’t like to talk about it much, since you know, I didn’t do anything Really spectacular per se. It almost seemed like I was someone else that day, but at the same time it was me. That wasn’t the first time I ever had to do CPR or run through a code, but it was one of my memorable ones.

Weekend Update

Roslyn's CafeSo this weekend was spent on a phototrip to various places in Washington State. The final destination was Wenatchee, where Meesh is currently working on Fire Dispatch. On the way, I managed to stop by Roslyn, WA, where the show Northern Exposure was filmed. It was quite the experience. They kept everything pretty much the same, which I think is Really amazing. You can view the rest of the town on my Northern Exposure Photo Set.

I also managed to visit Snoqualmie, and take pictures of the Snoqualmie Falls again. It’s so beautiful. I think someday, Meesh and I will have to go back to Salish Lodge. That was just a lot of fun.

Also while out at Wenatchee, Meesh was telling me about the Leavenworth. It sounds so awesome! It’s “Washington’s Bavarian Village”. It sounds like so much fun! We’re definitely going to have to check it out, sounds like some planning I have to do! I Totally see a new road trip in the future for us, with the Mini Cooper.

Hello, My Name is tiggerprr and I Am an Addict.

I love the Sonic Drive In. There’s no question that some days, a gooey cheese-topped order of tater tots and a yummy cheeseburger Really hits the spot. But that’s not what I’m having a problem with that might require intervention.

It’s the Real Fruit Pineapple Slush. It’s more than just a great drink on a hot day, it’s a snack too. There are so many chunks of fresh pineapple in it! You literally can suck a frozen piece of pineapple-ly goodness in every sip. Who am I kidding? I don’t sip this drink, I devour it. It’s soooooo tasty. There Really aren’t even words that I could use that would adequately describe my love for this drink.

You should go try one. Now.

100 Facts in 100 days – Fact 25

25. I collect ghost stories. Ok, yes, I realize this might be similar to Fact 4, but I think they’re just a little bit different. I love to hear people talk about crazy things that might have happened to them, and crazy ghosts they did see. I’m no skeptic, although I have many leanings towards it. I think I’ve seen enough to believe that there is something more out there than just stories and hoaxes. This just makes me remember the trip to New Orleans that Cybr and I made way back. We did the ghost tour, which started at 8:15pm, and there were some stories that were pretty creepy. I’m not exactly sure how many of the stories are Really made up, but honestly, I’m not surprised that New Orleans could be one of the most haunted cities in the world.

Tell me your ghost stories, I want to hear all about them!

100 Facts in 100 days – Fact 24

24. I’m the ultimate procrastinator. I mean constantly put things off. I start so many thing and keep pushing the completion date forward and forward because you know, I can finish it later, right? I mean why complete now, what I can

Hanazakari no Kimitachi e

Do what? Hana-what? Hanazakari no Kimitachi e. It’s the title of a Japanese Dorama I’m currently watching. It basically translates to “For You in Full Blossom”. Yeah, I know it doesn’t Really make sense but it’s a literal translation. It’s bascially about this girl who lives goes to an all-boy high school in japan, to stay with an athlete she comes to idolize and realizes she loves. The girl in question is portrayed by Horikita Maki. I love watching this particular dorama because I’m Totally in love with high shcool doramas. Possibly because I didn’t get to go to to high school in a japanese school I suppose.

I know, the story sounds familiar right? There have been so many of these stories. One of my favourites is still “She’s the Man” with Amanda Bynes. I’m just an Amanda Bynes fan, what can I say? Anyways, back to Hana Kimi (the shorter much better nickname of this drama).

Honestly, how can these movies/shows be believable. Especially if they live together in the same dorm room, as is done in this show. I mean, if you just LOOKED at the “guy”, you could probably tell that he was Really a she. There are things that you would notice wouldn’t you? What do you think? Is it possible for girls to pose as guys in high school?

It's Fair Season, aka Time for Death on a Stick

As summer draws to a close, many states across the country are celebrating their State Fairs. With that, comes competitions for the best pickles, the best cows, the best sheep, well you get the idea. The masses swell for concerts by favorite artists, to ride the rides, get creeped out by the fair game carnies and to view the spectacle that is the Butter Cow, if you’re at the Iowa State Fair. But let’s face the facts, you and I both know the real reason that anyone vists the State Fair is the food.
