100 facts in 100 days – Fact 30

Plate with fork and spoonI’m getting there with these facts. It’s tough coming up with 100 facts about yourself. Luckily I didn’t say 100 days in a row.

30. I might have mentioned this before, but I’ll try any food at least once. If it’s served to me, and I know I haven’t eaten it before and hated it, I’ll eat it. Sure. But I’m a hypocrite. Because there are certain foods I KNOW I will not care for, therefore won’t even try it.

One of those foods is cow tongue. I know, I know, there are a lot of you out there who think it’s awesome, and so good. No. No no no NO. I will not eat that. There is only one tongue in my mouth and no other tongues are allowed to be in my mouth to be eaten. That is just plain gross. If you’re gonna feed it to me, it better be hard to distinguish because I’ll know it’s not something I normally eat.

Oh yeah, another one? Rocky Mountain Oysters. Oh hell no!

What foods would you never ever eat?

What's new Yoshi?

Ok, here’s a boring post where I talk about things I’ve added to the site recently. I know you’re cheering right now right?

You’ll notice I added a contact form to the site, this is for anyone who would like to get a hold of me, but for some reason do not have my email or forgot my email address. (or more likely, have not kept up with all my email address changes.)

You’ll also notice that I’ved added a new “Now Reading” widget on the sidebar that let’s you know what book I’m now reading, and any past books I’ve read and reviewed. It also shows you what books I’ve got stored up in my queue to read, which are a lot, but I only listed a few of them (for now).

I also started adding google ads. Although this might change. I’m just not sure yet. I’m also putting in Text Link Ads. I’m not sure my site is even popular enough to worry about it, but we’ll see in the upcoming months. I know a few people who are using it and if I got what they got, then my hosting would pay for itself. (which is a good thing folks)

Here’s the interactive portion. What plugins do you have installed? I think I might have too many of them, but I’m curious to see what everyone has installed. (again, I know.)

Is the USDA inspection process shoddy?

Perhaps you’ve heard of the video that was released by the Humane Society from a Chino slaughterhouse. Watching this video makes me truly sad. Now, the USDA is under criticism. No, not for the treatment of the cows (which should be under investigation already) but for allowing mistreated cattle to go through the meat inspection process. Because this video has surfaced, they were forced to shut down that Chino-based slaughterhouse. Now people are wondering just how effective the USDA inspection process is.

This is aside from the fact that I am appalled at the amount of abuse that these cows have been given. But I digress.

From the LA Times article: “Cattle that are unable to walk are banned from use as human food because they show a higher occurrence of bovine spongiform encephalopathy, commonly known as mad cow disease.

There also was a statement from an undercover activist from the Humane Society who said, “It would take two or three of us to get the cow to stand in front of the inspector, on wobbly legs, and he would say ‘That’s fine.’

I’m of firm belief that any type of inspection process can easily be corrupted, in the form of bribes or even laziness. It just sounds like the inspector in question in the quote above by the activist did not care about it. If we are going to allow these inspectors to determine if something is safe for us to consume, they must be ever vigilant. Seriously! They cannot be corrupted or they cannot allow certain things to happen.

I too believe in the inspection process, and it’s not necessarily the fault of the USDA as much as it is the fault of the inspectors themselves who become lazy or corrupted. But the USDA Seriously needs to get down on these people. They need to make a change and tighten things up.
