I've never even heard that it was meant to save energy… Not sure I think it would. However, to my knowledge, the whole point is that during the summer, when it's nice out, people get home while there is still light and can play with their kids and do things outside. Considering the rash of obesity/latch key kids/etc. in this country, I think we need daylight savings time now more then ever!

here, save an “s” instead. it’s daylight saving, not daylight savings. and that’s the only really useful (but still inane) thing i have to say on the subject.

except that leaving my house in the morning when it’s still dark outside sucks.

We do change our time here in Missouri. I have always wondered what it would be like to live on the edge of a time zone, or by a place (like Indianapolis or Arizona) who does not observe Daylight Savings. I think it would be confusing when making appointments. It would go something like this…

“Ok, I will meet you at 3:00. Wait! Is that my time or yours?”

DST is a fucking joke.

Most people come home from work in the evening…5pm-7pm. The fact that the sun is up and BLAZING at this time during DST means people come home from work, and immediately crank up the a/c. The power consumption from a/c is waaaay higher than that of incandescent light bulbs.
