What they don't mention is that Polaroid has been losing money on instant film ever since 1-hour photo developing was introduced. Polaroid was really only being used for truly instant applications (like temporary identification) or "private" situations.
They also don't mention that polaroids don't last longer than a year or two without degrading so they end up being thrown out – and they aren't exactly biodegradable.
Polaroid is iconic though. It'll be missed – but they are developing the instant digital: Directly from camera to frame.
