Blizzard sues WoW Bot maker

World of WarcraftI’m sure any of you who have ever played World of Warcraft will know about the “bots” running around the world. Basically, people buy a program that will do everything for you, and have it run 24 hours a day, collecting money, gaining experience, or whatever. And they don’t have to do a thing. Now, isn’t that cheating? I think so.

Blizzard, the creators of World of Warcraft, suspends or bans accounts based on them using a bot simply because it interferes with normal operations of the world. A bot doesn’t sleep. It doesn’t stop to eat, or go to the bathroom like a human does. So you can see the disadvantage already. Humans cannot possibly keep up with them.

Well, apparently Blizzard is now sueing the bot creator. The creator has no idea how they can sue him since he is not infringing on any copyright laws because it doesn’t copy any part of the game. However, Blizzard is insisting that it violates copyright because it makes a copy of the game and puts it into RAM to bypass any detection by anti-cheating tools.

Who can say who is correct, but honestly, anyone who cheats ruins the game for everyone else. seriously. I really hope that blizzard wins but I’m sure it won’t stop someone else from creating another type of program that wouldn’t violate copyright laws.

A Little Scary

If I had to be really honest, I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t exactly go out and read web comics. I don’t know why, but I just haven’t gotten into them. I’d read them when someone links a comic, or if something has a particular subject I’m interested in, but I have to admit I never really got into it.

Until now.

cybr has started up a new web comic called A Little Scary, and it looks pretty good so far. I know cybr’s humour, and we’re just about on the same page, so I know it will be good. I think you should read it too. Why? Because I said so.

Check it out, seriously. You might like it!

Notice something…different?

Well, today I finally got in my new glasses. I love them! And I know, I’m sure you’d like to see them on me. Well, I actually posted a video (after the bump) where you can see them. Tomorrow, my sunglasses should be in, but they’re the same ones, I just got new lenses put in them because my prescription changed (I can see now – all you drivers that share the same road can thank me later) and the lenses were really, truly, scratched up.

I’m happy I can see and have new styling IZOD glasses!

Hoax Craigslist ads

CraigslistI read this news article today and was just appalled: Hoax Craigslist ads cost man huge property loss. Which brings me to my point. Since when was it true because something is on the Internet? And knowing there are so many hoaxes on craigslist, why would you not question it? seriously. What was that saying? “Never believe everything you read”? Yeah, this definitely should go into effect for anything on the Internet. You really need proof.

What does Craigslist do about it anyways? The most they could do I suppose is find out who supposedly posted the ad, and give the data over to the police. I really hope they get caught. Because seriously, that’s just not right to do. I suppose this is a good method to get back at someone. As a revenge thing.

But could Craigslist prevent more of this happening? Should they be forced to screen every single ad on their site? That’s a tremendous undertaking and honestly, it doesn’t sound probable or practical. But if Craigslist were held responsible for all their ads, now that’s a different matter. Of course, they would probably be taken down faster than you could say “Craigslist?” and go out of business. And you know they have a disclaimer which protects them in such cases for legal reasons.

I think personally, I’m just appalled at the evil that people do. Because make no mistake, this is evil. There is no quality of practical joke there anywhere. We’ve seen or heard about all the hoaxes on Craigslist, and it just makes me ashamed to be human. Personally, I don’t think they could be prevented. People are evil by nature. It’s what we do that makes us good people.

What do you think? Do you think more should be done to prevent such hoaxes?

100 facts in 100 days – Fact 32

I just figured this out today. When I talk to a person who has an asian accent, I speak as if I had an asian accent. I know it’s weird but it’s true. I caught myself doing this today when I went to the Korean store to get some food. The lady there asked me how long I’ve lived in the area and I responded with a total asian accent. I thought it was pretty funny.

Of course, this doesn’t happen with my mom. When I talk to her it’s more like JapEnglish (for those of you who don’t know what this is, it’s talking with some words Japanese and most words in English), but Meesh told me when I was talking to my aunt from Japan, I spoke totally differently. Pretty weird!

Does anyone out there notice the same things? I know when I sometimes talk to my Jersey friends, I get the Jersey accent going on.
