The macbook fiasco

Ok. So here’s what happened. Now that I’m calm and collected, I can talk about it. Allow me to present a timeline.

Friday: Reinstall my macbook. It was being slow and had so much crap on it, I just had to reinstall. Namely, MySQL and a bunch of apache stuff that I never use. I really needed to get rid of it. So I backed up the system. Check. Reinstalled. Check.

Saturday: Machine locks up in the morning. I turned off the macbook, and started it back up. I got the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning “gear”. This is not good. I call Apple support. Zap the PRAM. No go. Disk utility. No go. The hard drive is not responding. Fuck. Tech tells me to manually disk check the drive by holding down Shift while starting up. Call back if you have issues. Well, we have to go see houses, so I let it go and hopefully it starts up.

Come back, no, it’s still in the same place. I call back Tech support. She says that there must be a hardware failure and “do you wish to set up an appointment with a Mac Genius?” Sure. I’ll go to a Mac store. (I didn’t realize they were actually called “geniuses” until I got there. So funny. What does it take to become a Mac Genius?)

Sunday: Get to the Mac store in Tukwila. Wow. It’s busy as hell! I wait for my noon appointment. But really you still have to wait for whoever was in front of you in the appointment line. I finally got to see the tech and he said he could replace the drive if they had it in stock and then he can just return it to me after diagnostics and I can reinstall the OS. I said, “Kick ass! Let’s do it!”

He looks for the drive.

Just my luck. They don’t have it in stock. Fuck. After a minute of chit chat, he says, “wait, let me look again. I think I might have looked for the wrong part.” Ok. So he goes to the back room.

We wait.

He comes out with a box! Hell yeah! He found the drive. So he said give him about 15 minutes and he’ll have it replaced. My mom and I walk around the mall, and look for a Food Court. This is when we realize… Holy crap, there’s no food court in Southcenter Mall. I’ll say though, they are making changes. But still. No food court? What gives Westfield?

Anyways, so after about half an hour, it’s still not done. Uh-oh. I can only imagine something is going wrong and my macbook is really in bigger trouble. I go back and apparently, the diagnostic process is taking a lot longer on the RAM testing. Who knows why. So I wait around and he tells me that it’s still testing, and it’s on test 16 of 22 (or 24, I can’t really remember) so I could go ahead and walk around the mall for a bit and he’d call me. Ok, no problem.

Sure enough, just as soon as I left, the tests are complete and it’s good to go. He called, but I didn’t get the call. LOL Go figure. So we’re wandering the mall, and he calls again, but I heard the ring, and he tells me to come pick it up.

So now, at this point, I’ve reinstalled the OS, reinstalled most of my programs and I’m about 60% back to normal. I tell you what. I’ll never make fun of Mac “Geniuses” again.

People can’t drive

You might recall a past post where I say, “Why people shouldn’t drive ginormous trucks”. Yes, that’s right, people have no idea how to drive big-ass trucks. I’m serious.

The other day while going through the Taco Bell drive-thru, a lady in her big-ass truck was waiting in line. In front of her, another person in their big-ass truck were ordering. I think the space between the two trucks was huge enough to actually fit Meesh’s Mini-cooper in there. I mean seriously. I understand that I need to give some leeway concerning trucks. But honestly? If you can’t at least move as close as a car-length to the car in front of you, you should not be driving that vehicle.

I honestly think that I would just love driving…if I was the only driver on the road. seriously.
