I’m the type of person who seems to associate music with a lot of memories. I know, I know, what does it have to do with old cars?
But listen, just for a moment. So I associate a lot of songs with certain types of memories. For instance, when I hear just about any Beatles tune, the first thing I think of is my old beat up Mercury Bobcat. (Yes, if you’re wondering, that’s the Mercury equivalent of a Ford Pinto – Gimme a break it was my first car, ok?)
Anyways, it reminds of one night when me and my buddies were driving…somewhere in Jersey, down route 70, listening to Beatles tunes. That one particular night was pretty magical, because we somehow knew the lyrics of every single song that played. It was really amazing. You know, usually you sing along with a song and you don’t know all the words, right? Well, we somehow did. It was pretty odd. It was definitely a night I’ll never forget.
One particular Beatles tune reminds me of a totally different car though. Here Comes the Sun for some reason reminds me of my friend Kate and one time driving my 1974 Plymouth Valiant (read: Dodge Dart) down I-295, and I was complaining about this guy who’s lights were really bright behind me and was tailing me. And a little later on, I was doing pretty much the same thing to someone else, and Kate pointed that out. I felt guilty and laughed and pulled back a little.
Wow. That was like a long time ago. I don’t even remember where we were going or what we were doing. But for some reason, that song reminds me of that moment. I bet that song wasn’t even playing, but that’s what it reminds me of for some reason. Kate, do you remember that? What was that, like wow, 19 years ago? We’re getting old my dear, dear friend. Well I am at least.
Dana started Memory Monday last year to honor her Grandfather, who suffered from Dementia/Alzheimer’s. This is cool. Feel free to participate. This is my way of not forgetting some of the life changing (and not so life changing) events in my life.

Wow Yosh! I remember driving with you lots, but don’t remember that specific time. haha. Sounds like me though. I love Here Comes the Sun. It is one of the best songs ever. I have such great memories of music and movies from that time. We were so young and free!
And remember you recorded John Hughes movies on tape so we could listen to them in the car? So awesome. I still have them somewhere. It will be 20 years next year. Wow.
Awesome post, Yoshi! The music that takes me back to those times with the “Sushi Crew” – Guns n’ Roses “Apetite for Destruction” CD(it might’ve been a cassette back then!!Lol,
Any hair band, Bon Jovi, Metallica (of course, and the song “Wild Wild West” but I forget what band that was. Man, those were the days – you’re right Kate (Hi Kate!!), we didn’t have a care in the world!
Here Comes The Sun is one of my all-time favorites too – it reminds me now of the birth of my daughter Jessica. I love it!
I like the idea – Memory Monday
Thanks Kate and Yoshi!
My parents are German – I’ll always associate Heino with driving in the 1983 white Toyota Corolla station wagon … I even bought a Heino compilation for this.
Most grunge music reminds me of college – not really a driving thing, but still, a memory.
BTW – B.T. from Jersey told me to look you up.
What Happened ????? Remember that saying. Ahhh, the good old days. This does bring me back. Wow! How is everyone? The band I remember for some weird reason is,”Poison”, “Every Rose has a Thorn”. This song was playing while all of us in the Sushimobile was heading to Pizza Hut on a Friday night. I remember faintly that we were all sitting in the booth, when all of us were cracking on Brian about his Curfew. Remember that!!! That was just one of the funny memories out of millions that we had together. Great memories guys, miss those days.
I do the same thing. Certain songs remind me of different things. For instance there is a set of songs that I associate with studying. There are other songs which remind me of a specific holiday and others that remind me of good or bad times in my life. And Yoshi, no, you ‘re not getting old. Not yet at least. I’ll let you know when you do. :P
I love it that certain songs remind me of different things from my past. Life sure goes by fast. I don’t think you have to worry about being old just yet.
@everyone Thanks for visiting folks. I’m gonna post more memories as the mondays go by. This is so nostalgic and fun!
@kate yeah there are great memories of those times. That’s only one time i remember driving around with you. there are others I don’t remember now lol For some reason that one just sticks out whenever I am behind someone driving. crazy eh?
@brian hahah I totally forgot we called ourselves “the sushi crew” and we called my car “the sushimobile” LOL. wild wild west was sung by Escape Club IIRC.
@Losrulz Grunge music would remind me of college too had I actually attended. LOL Thanks for stopping by!
@zeembaleemee LOL what’s up with that name and the website? is that you Stevie? LOL I totally remember saying that all the time! It’s funny cuz Meesh says that too all the time. hehe OMG!!! I remember that now, I videoed that time at pizza hut! wth, I have to find it now. I remember Brian was all bummed out because of it and was pouting. LOL that was funny.
@colin yeah, I’ll have to repost or redo my “if my life had a soundtrack” posts. Because so many songs remind me of so many things.
@jenn life does go by fast! it’s like ferris bueller said, “life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
Oh my gosh! I haven’t done a Memory Monday in so long. I’m honored that you remembered it. I’m teary-eyed over here. What great memories you have. I too associate music to so many memories. I could write a book about it all!
