PODS and moving

Perhaps you’ve seen the commercials or the ads or you just plain saw one of those storage things out in a parking lot called “PODS”. It stands for Portable On Demand Storage. Well, my parents decided to move from the east coast (NJ) to here (WA) and they decided to have PODS ship their household goods. Yes, that’s right, you can load up a PODS and they’ll deliver it for a fee (in this case about $4,000) for you. They also have people who will pack your stuff for you too. (more on this in a bit.)

So my parents, after closing on their house and moving in after staying for about a week with us, called the PODS people (I keep thinking Invasion of the body snatchers when I talk about these guys) and they told my parents they would deliver the PODS unit on Monday (6/16) and pick it up on Tuesday (6/17). That sounded good, except they didn’t specify a time of when they were going to drop it off. Hmmm.

So come Monday, after Meesh works on Sunday to take off Monday, the PODS hadn’t showed up by 10am. After my mom talked to PODS and with a lot of “Please hold” going on, we finally find out just what happened. At first, the lady at PODS told us that the PODS unit was delivered to the wrong warehouse and was 100 miles away. We were told that it would be delivered to Everett, WA, which is indeed about 100 miles away. So we weren’t even sure what was going on there. But come to really find out, the only reason they didn’t deliver it on Monday was… (drum roll here) all their drivers were out sick, and there were no drivers to deliver it.

What. the. fuck.

seriously. So no one could have called in the AM saying “hey btw, we don’t have any drivers so we’re rescheduling your drop off to another day”? No one could have said something about rescheduling? Don’t they have back up drivers? Come on. That’s totally wrong.

Mysteriously, after my mom complained to them, telling them that Meesh took the day off just because they said they were going to be there, and that no one called for a status update, they were on the phone calling them constantly telling them what was going on. I’m sorry, but the damage is already done. You guys screwed up PODS. I will never recommend your service to anyone. Ever.
