You don't know what you don't see

You know, why did you ever start a blog? Have you ever asked that question? For that matter, how “personal” do you get in a blog? Yes, the names can be changed to protect the innocent, but Seriously, how much of your life do you actually post in your blog? For any readers of this site, I think personally I don’t post anything Really personal. I’ve made some exceptions here and there and have posted about having my stroke (let’s not forget the awesome view I had from my hospital room), and having my dialysis catheter placed. But how much do you Really know about me?

headacheYou can hide behind your blogs because you choose what to post about. Granted, there are so many people who post just about everything in their lives, but honestly, how much of it can you truly believe? How much of it is true fact and not part of embellishing things to create an “interesting” post? You don’t know.

I was thinking today (I know, dangerous, did you smell the burning?) and came to the conclusion that most people who read my site, but never talk to me, Really don’t know much about me. My entire readership of 5 people (including the spammers!) probably don’t know much about me, unless I chat with them outside of the blog in Instant Messaging (IM).

I have to admit that I will probably not change how I come up with entries on this site and continue to post things which upset me or piss me off, but I just wanted to know from everyone who have a blog, how much of your personal life, your REAL personal life, do you reveal on your blog?

How does this post make you feel?

  1. Well I for one use my Blog as sort of a WTF venue. That might be things that make me laugh, make me angry or make me think. All in all it's a place for me to share bits and pieces of my thoughts that I wish to have out there for the world to read anonymously and a select few specifically.

Often I am brutally honest about things that I might never say to anyone in my day to day life and that is why I have my Blog. So I can let out the things which are trying to consume me so that I might better understand them.

As a rule, the few people I have offered up my Blogs site to are the people I genuinely trust or consider to be closer than casual friends. I value them for their opinions and their occasional insights into my Postings. Those that stumble on it based on Tags are welcome to speak up as I have left it Public for the time being.

Sometimes a person on the outside can give you a clearer picture of your life than anyone right next to you.

    So um..yeah :)

  2. I like to think I know you reasonably well..

I share a small part of my life. I started blogging waaaay back in the day for personal therapy mostly. I can't even tell you how many times the phrase "well, at least it's something to blog about!" has kept me sane :p

KSF is not so personal though, now that I think about it. I tell stories and stuff but I don't talk much about feelings, not like I did on LiveJournal. I think it's cause LJ has no stats, and feelings don't bring repeat readers ;)

  3. @abraxus yeah, I definitely use the blog as a WTF kind of thing. We're on the same wavelength I think. :D

@katie actually yes you do know me well, of course, you're advantaged in that you've actually met me in person and we hung out a couple times. that helps too :P

  4. I don't embellish anything…not on my blog or in real life. In fact, I HATE "enhancers" as I call them. I can understand if I am writing fiction but on my personal blog? What's the point. I blog my real life because I have family that read and really it is their only means of finding out anything since we don't talk much.

  5. I probably reveal way too much, but my blog doesn't provide an accurate picture of who I am as a whole. It's more like a diary with an audience.

  6. @daisy yeah you're one of those people i was thinking about who tell everything for reals and don't change anything or try to embellish. totally.

@monique yeah you're another of the real bloggers i was thinking of too. but i can see how it's not everything. :D

  7. my blog used to be rants, anecdotes, funny things. lately it's mostly my twitter feed. can't complain too much about people anymore because some of those people read my blog. so what i used to use as an outlet is no longer an outlet. and i've nothing interesting to say these days, anyway.
