Expression Engine 2.0 update

So there’s been an update about Expression Engine 2.0, and apparently at this point, it’s on “feature lockdown”, meaning no new features will be added anymore. This is a good sign of it coming out soon!

Another exciting update is the jQuery module is getting completed. I don’t know about anyone else but this Really excites me because this will make a lot of great things so easy to do!

It’s said the next update will be coming on January 30-ish. Totally can’t wait!

Face in the hole – If you wish to put your face in someone else’s look, you have got to check this out. Definite time-waster.

Best Job in the world! – Looking for something new? Maybe you qualify for this job in the Great Island Reef! There were so many applicants, this site crashed!

jCrap – A bunch of Japanese crap. If you’re looking for some good laughs, check it out.

Being Diabetic – Yes, a new blog by me, about being diabetic and on dialysis. I Really hope to help others with this site.

The number of The Beast

Last night, I heard some troubling news. Meesh told me that Ricardo Montalban had passed away. I was devastated. He will always be the host of Fantasy Island to me, and I loved every single episode! I will also always remember him for the role of Khan in Star Trek. There was nothing quite like Khan in the original series and then when he reprised his role in the second Star Trek movie I was ecstatic! Nothing fills me with energy inside as the scene with Kirk yelling “Khaaaaaan!”

He will be missed.

In more sad news, I heard from Insomnic that Patrick McGoohan, star of acclaimed show, “The Prisoneralso passed away. I will always love his work as Number 6 in that show. He Really made the show work, and I loved it. This was a time when they Really made good tv shows. He will be missed as well. Video after the bump.

the_beastAnd in more entertainment news, I’m looking forward to watching the show The Beast, which premieres tonight on A&E. I have to admit that I’m probably more excited to see that Patrick Swayze is doing some work. Even with his cancer, he is still moving on and working and well, it’s Really an inspiration to me. I have to admit he does look a lot different than he has in the past, but he’s still one of my favorite actors and I’ll never waver as his fan. I still remember Road House.

What another new site?

So here I am starting something else new. A while ago, I decided that I didn’t Really like to put information about diabetes or my dialysis on my own site. I realize that it is my personal site, but it wasn’t Really personal. It was a place for me to have fun. At the same time, I came to the conclusion that people don’t Really know enough about the situation they were in. After all the hospital visits, I’ve heard too many people who, like me, had diabetes (or something similar) and just didn’t know what to do. It was like you’re lost and not sure where to go.

For some people, this is okay. They will do what they’re doctor tells them to do. But they will never know why! They will mindlessly do everything the doctor subscribes, and never question anything.

So what I want to accomplish here is some type of knowledge base, as well as my experience with dialysis and diabetes as well. Learning is the key to everything. Knowledge is power! Hopefully, this will also enable others to chime in and comment on their own experiences as well. I know I am not alone. If you are here reading this, know that you are not alone.

I know that you know that I know, right?

mentalistI like to think I’m a pretty good listener. I also like to think I am also very observant. But my skills and observations could never come close to Patrick Jane, The Mentalist. Patrick Jane is not a psychic. He only seems like he is. He sees things we don’t see. He listens to what people say, and based on all his observations, he makes a conclusion. Which is usually right. This show is awesome. I love mysteries just like anyone else. I love to solve them. I love the method that Patrick Jane has for solving crimes. He seems to make light and find the humor in any situation. If you like detective/CSI-type shows, then this one is for you. Just like the ads said about this show, it’s a show I bet even Gil Grissom would enjoy.

As for Gil Grissom, he’s leaving CSI. I’m very saddened about this. I was Really sad when they got rid of Warrick, and I understand the situation. But honestly by getting rid of Gil Grissom… I think it’s jumping the shark. At this point I think I just want the show to end. Make a spinoff of CSI, but don’t get rid of what makes CSI and keep it as is. I understand Lawrence Fishburn is coming in as well. That’s all good and all, but “Morpheus” is not Grissom. I think Fishburne will make the show great, but taking Peterson’s place? I don’t think anyone can ever take his place. He’s got some Really big shoes to fill if that’s the case. But that’s all I’m saying about CSI.

What you see is what you get, right?

If you saw me on the street without knowing anything about me, you’d never know I had Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). You’d never know I had a stroke. You’d never know I have diabetes. But I do. The other day, it just cracked me up when I met a doctor who I was consulting to for the first time. When he came into the room, he just looked at me with some surprise and told me I was not what he was expecting at all. He had read my chart, looking at all the crazy stuff that has happened within the past year, and I guess he had formulated some kind of decrepit old man, who looked like he had been run over about ten times. Possibly with my skin peeling off my bones or something. But no, he said I look very very good for someone with all the conditions I have.

I know you’re wondering, “what does this have to do with anything?” I just want to point out that what you see may not be what it is. You cannot look at me and say I am healthy. More than that, you cannot just look at me and know what kind of person I am. It just amazes me how you can have a physically beautiful person, and yet they are so ugly if their personality is mean and cruel. I always look at the person. I see the whole. However, I do have the superficial moments when I rate beauty by how you look. But honestly I look at the whole.

true_beautyThat’s why for once, I’m Totally digging this new show called True Beauty. If you’ve missed it, it’s a show about ten contestants who think they are entering a reality show contest to see who is the most beautiful. Six women and four men will live together and compete in these “competitions” and be eliminated. What they don’t know is how they’re Really being judged. Instead of being judged by how they perform in each competition, they are also being judged on how they are on the inside. This test includes things like giving to a charity or perhaps just helping someone out. They are also graded on how they are during these competitions. Don’t be a liar!

I love this show because these people are completely clueless and they are so full of themselves. In the end, I suppose I wouldn’t mind if they all fell on their faces from being so full of themselves. I have to thank Ashton Kutcher and Tyra Banks for this show. I wonder who Really thought of this.

After judgement, and when they are eliminated, the ousted member is told the real reason for the show, and how they were Really being tested. I think perhaps they could probably let them down a little easier, it does seem like a blow to the ego, however, some of the things those contestants do Really Really deserve I think.

You have got to check this show out. Even if you don’t like reality shows, if you’re mean like me and want to see people fall who deserve it, you’ll like it.

2009 flood damage

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the crazy flooding that’s been going on around here in Washington. The damage it has caused has been insanely crazy. It only reminds me of the 2007 flood, although from what I understand it was no where near as bad as that. They did indeed close down I-5, and if you’re from this area, you’d know that I-5 is a major way to get from Portland to Seattle, or well anywhere, going north and south. It’s a big deal. Let me put it to you this way: I was supposed to get some medical goods from Portland, but since I-5 was closed, they couldn’t deliver it. The driver simply had no way to get to me except via a super roundabout way, which would take the driver perhaps 3 or 4 hours out of the way. That’s crazy. Now for the real thing. Some actual pictures from I-90, Snoqualmie pass. Thankfully I’m no where near either of these places! (And who knew that WA DOT had a flickr page?)

Who watches the watchers?

cute_kittenFor the past three days, I’ve been getting IV antibiotics, because my tube has been infected. They were doing IV because it needs to be pretty aggressive. During this time, I got to spend quite a bit of time in Urgent Care. (our healthcare provider’s equivalent to the Emergency Room) I noticed a lot of things.

You are able to tell right off, who are the nurses that care and who are the nurses that don’t. This is a Really sad thing to me. I used to be in healthcare, and I know how the job can get crazy and frustrating and tiresome. But honestly, you should never take it out on a patient. This is not a business where caring about your “customers” is not necessary. But on some level, there are nurses who act that way and act as if they are doing you a favor by helping you. First off, those nurses should just be fired. Nurses who don’t care or have stopped caring are a danger. It just upsets me.

I remember a quote from the show, ER, where Noah Wiley’s character was talking to a resident doing their rounds in the ER after a patient dies. He said (something to this effect) “do you want the good news or the bad news first?” and the resident replied, “the bad news”. Noah Wiley’s character says, “the bad news is: you never get used to it. The good news is: you never get used to it.”

I am Totally digging that. Because it’s true. You should never get used to that. It’s a job where you care about the people. If you treat the job like a job, I’m afraid you need to quit. At least do something different. I’ll get off my soapbox now.

Hopefully your times in the ER were not crazy like mine.

Oh, by the way, thanks to Danalyn, I now have nested comments! Yay!

You don't know what you don't see

You know, why did you ever start a blog? Have you ever asked that question? For that matter, how “personal” do you get in a blog? Yes, the names can be changed to protect the innocent, but Seriously, how much of your life do you actually post in your blog? For any readers of this site, I think personally I don’t post anything Really personal. I’ve made some exceptions here and there and have posted about having my stroke (let’s not forget the awesome view I had from my hospital room), and having my dialysis catheter placed. But how much do you Really know about me?

headacheYou can hide behind your blogs because you choose what to post about. Granted, there are so many people who post just about everything in their lives, but honestly, how much of it can you truly believe? How much of it is true fact and not part of embellishing things to create an “interesting” post? You don’t know.

I was thinking today (I know, dangerous, did you smell the burning?) and came to the conclusion that most people who read my site, but never talk to me, Really don’t know much about me. My entire readership of 5 people (including the spammers!) probably don’t know much about me, unless I chat with them outside of the blog in Instant Messaging (IM).

I have to admit that I will probably not change how I come up with entries on this site and continue to post things which upset me or piss me off, but I just wanted to know from everyone who have a blog, how much of your personal life, your REAL personal life, do you reveal on your blog?
