I will agree, but I still liked the film. I know it's a blatant remake, and yeah it's cheesy, but I chose to ignore all that and just go ahead and enjoy it. For entertainment value, I thought it was good.

As for the time shift thing, yeah it's cheesy, but really do we need to have an explanation for everything? We should just enjoy it.

As an old-time fan, I just didn't like the movie (go ahead and boo and hiss). I came out feeling....well....taken advantage of. The "time shift" (aka: Back to the Future 2) concept was what turned me off. Hey, why not do this again 20 years from now? How about again in 40 years? Wanna keep the cash cow going? Just keep throwing in a cheezy timeshift and redefine the series....Sheeesh. Just trash the cannon to suit your economic plans.

Roddenbury must be spinning in his grave.

I wonder how the original writers feel? John Ford, JM Dillard, Diane Duane, DC Fontana, etc.,

I'd heard of "taking a clean slate" but this is rediculous. I agree with other posts, this is like Phantom Menance. To make a new series for a new generation.
