Star Trek (reboot)

Ok, I have to admit as a somewhat Trekker, I was opposed to having another movie of star trek. As much as I’d love that JJ Abrams wanted to do it, I just didn’t think we needed another Star Trek movie. On top of all that he wanted to do a film with Kirk and the original cast. Let them die already! But that was before I actually saw the new movie. All I can say is one word:

Wow.

The special effects were awesome. Of course. There was only one problem I had with a lot of the action scenes, and it was that they were just a bit too fast, and confusing. You couldn’t see what was Really going on and you had the idea, but not exactly what was going on. Perhaps this is the effect they wanted, who knows. Perhaps I am just getting old. That’s the only thing I have to say about the action.

As for the story, I think I might have to agree with George Martin that it’s a bit flimsy. (well he didn’t say that exactly, but I’m with him about the story) The continuity was rather non existant, but in a way, the writers explained this, which I put in the same league as Dallas and everything was just a dream scenario. (of course, the movie is not a dream. no spoilers here, but i’m just saying the story is so similar.)

The actors I thought were the only saving grace. I loved them. Love love loved them. I thought Karl Urban did a phenomenal job as Bones. I think even DeForest Kelley would say bravo to his performance. However, I recall what Meesh was saying of some of them, it almost seemed like they were making fun of the original actors. I can see that too, but luckily Chris Pine was pretty damn good as Kirk. I didn’t think he overacted or anything. I thought he did an excellent job. IMHO, I think Simon Pegg might have taken it too much with Scotty, but as Meesh pointed out, sometimes Scotty is a bit over the top. LOL So true. I just wanna say that Zachary Quinto was pretty damn awesome as Spock and it was oh so refreshing to see him as something that wasn’t Sylar. (Meesh even overheard a guy saying that after the movie too)

All in all, I think everyone will either love this movie or hate this movie. I think diehard Trek fans will discount this movie. But that’s just me. Meanwhile I highly recommend this movie. We did see it IMAX, which made it even better perhaps.

What's up Bub?

Ok, so today, we made plans to go watch Star Trek in IMAX. Unfortunately, we got there too late and the showing we went to go see was sold out. So instead, we bought tickets to go see it tomorrow at 1:10pm. There’s no way we’re having the sold out issue tomorrow.

So we decided to go see Wolverine tonight. Oh. My. God. I love it. No spoilers or anything, but please make sure if you haven’t seen it already to at least wait till the credits go away to the end. Pretty slick. I’m sure a lot of people were Really annoyed at Gambit or perhaps they were angry at the inconsistencies with the comics. But let’s remember that this is a different multiverse of the Marvel universe and not everything is the same as the comics.

I loved it. I thought deadpool was awesome, Totally love Ryan Reynolds, and the role was perfect for him. I also thought Liev Schrieber was AWESOME as Sabretooth. All in all, I thought it was a pretty damn good movie. You’ve gotta go see it.

Star Trek mini review to follow.

Mother's Day

So Mother’s Day is upcoming. What do you have planned? My mom is having one of her friend’s visit, so she’ll be up in Vancouver visiting over the weekend. So we’re celebrating it early for her, and we’re going out to dinner tomorrow. Consequently, it looks like we’re taking Meesh’s mom out to the same restaurant, for lunch the next day! How funny. That place must be real popular with mom’s. It certainly is popular with ours!

Other than that, it looks like nothing else is planned. Just spending time with them is always good.

In other news, my sister is coming to visit, mainly because she’s got a bunch of tests to do at University of Washington for the kidney workup. Basically they need to verify and make sure that she’s a match to me and that she’s in perfect health to give me her kidney. Sounds like it’s a jam packed tiring day. We’re planning of spending the whole day in Seattle, should be a lot of fun. Sounds like a lot of sitting around and waiting though.

Square Butts

Ok, I’m sure you’ve had to have seen that Burger King commercial for their kid’s meal. There’s just something wrong with that only because I just don’t think it’s appropriate for children and yes, the meal is for kids. I don’t think the song is something appropriate for kids. Really. Even if the song is about Spongebob. Especially when Sir Mixalot says at the end, “booty is booty”. I somehow can’t believe enough people haven’t complained about it. Video is after the bump. However, I will admit that the song is pretty funny. Oh, and I still think the king is Really creepy.

iPhone wins

So I realized that my contract Really expires on 6/1/09 instead of 8/24/09, so it looks like we’re getting the iPhone a bit sooner than I think. I know that it’s about the same time as the iPhone 3.0 update, and I don’t think there’s any new hardware (that I know of). So it looks like we’re going with AT&T instead, hail to the Empire! Don’t think I’m hating on verizon. I’ve got a wireless data plan with them, and they work great for me. Nothing like being able to connect to the net no matter where I go. (not that we do much traveling mind you.)

So that’s an update.
