Kidney swap

If you are reading this, then me and my sister are now prepping in the OR for the kidney transplant. I’m not entirely sure how long it will take, only because every procedure is different, but we’ve been told 4-5 hours. That means by noon we should be in the recovery room and everything should be successful. For me, I will be glad that it’s over. Now, there is only the grueling process of finding out what drugs to take for my immuno suppression regime and I will be good to go.

The biggest thing I have to keep in mind is that the transplant is a treatment, and not a cure. I still have to mind things and keep in mind I do have chronic kidney disease, except I have a new kidney that is helping in the process. I’m really looking forward to being able to do things without getting tired so fast. I’m thinking of getting into swimming, since that’s pretty damn good exercise and it won’t affect my neuropathy as much, if at all.

Here’s to looking forward to the future!

UPDATE: Hope Yoshi won’t mind me (Danalyn) updating for him… the transplant went well and both Yoshi and his sister are in recovery.  She is awake fully, Yoshi is still dozing in and out – he’s a trooper!

Blogathon

Big surprise, I’m not doing the blogathon this year. I’ll be busy getting ready for my surgery (on the 29th) and waiting for my sister to show up. Consequently she’ll be flying in town on Saturday. But Colin is doing it and you should at least check it out! I’m unfortunately not sponsoring anyone this year, since I’ve got enough expenses with the surgery and my medication, which can cost up to 2k a month! I know it won’t be that much but still even 200 bucks a month is quite a bit just for medication. eek!

In other news, we’ve seen The Proposal. If you haven’t seen it, go. It’s freaking hilarious. And for all you Sandra Bullock lovers, yes she gets naked and so does Ryan Reynolds. That whole scene was hilarious. We also went and saw Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. You must go if your a Harry Potter fan. If you’ve read the book, yes, they did some changes. But you should still see it. I thought it was pretty good.

The big day

So the date has been set to have surgery on July 29th. It’s gonna be a long day, I suspect. Me and my sister will both be going under the knife to transfer over one of her kidneys. I still think that after the surgery, we’ll be telepathically linked or something. I think it’ll be cool. I have to admit that I might be a bit nervous about the whole thing. Or perhaps it’s just excitement that I’m getting it done and won’t have to do dialysis anymore who knows. I’m definitely excited.

Counting down the days!

Happy Independence Day

Well, hopefully everyone is having a safe and fun holiday. Happy July 4th, everyone! Let’s make sure we’re careful and try to keep the activities to a safe level. :D

Oh and for those of you who didn’t know, a lot of fireworks are illegal in Washington. Who knew! Hopefully fire season this year won’t be so bad.
