So here comes a bulleted post. If you don’t want to continue reading after that, don’t continue to read on. Otherwise, read on!
- So I’ve started to increase my dosage of Gabapentin (aka Neurontin) as per the neurologist. My neuropathy is just getting worse every day it seems.
- I’ve been considering to just go ahead and keep growing my hair to donate to Locks of Love.
- I went to get a bunch of lab tests done, and my A1C was at an all time low I believe. (this is good)
- Lately, I’ve been having issues with the right side of my body. I keep thinking it’s residual from my stroke, but it can’t be.
Well, here’s where I explain more of each bullet. You clicked on the link, so you asked for it!
1. So I’ve been on a regular regime of 300mg 3 times a day for a long time now. It doesn’t do much, but at least it did control some of the neuropathy. The Neurologist has recommended I increase the dosage 100mg every 3 days until I don’t feel any pain from the neuropathy. It can get pretty harsh. Right now, my feet are at the point where they’re getting numb. It continually gets harder to walk each day, and I think it’ll get to the point (now I think), where I’ll need to walk with a cane, only so I don’t fall. I’m already visually checking all my limbs and body for any issues. Being diabetic does that to you. Here are some neuropathic anomalies I’m going through right now:
- Numbness/pain in my feet, hands and various areas of my body, including my chest. The pain feels like needles.
- When I eat, no matter what I eat, I sweat. It’s very horrible.
- I don’t think I feel the symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) anymore.
Yeah I think the pain is the worst actually. It can happen at any time, and it’s pretty random for me. I just get either Really sharp pains like a thousand needles poking into me. Also my feet get hot, but they’re Really not. It’s the neuropathy tricking my brain into thinking that it’s hot. Totally crazy.
2. So my hair’s almost past the point of annoying hair, and I’m thinking about just going ahead and growing it out so I can donate to Locks of Love. But I’m thinking I might not be patient enough to wait for it to grow out to 10″ long. That’s just a long time. We’ll see how it goes.
3. My last A1C, if you’re keeping track like me, was 6.4. Now that number might not mean much to you. Anything higher than 6.0 is considered high. If the score is higher than 6.5 twice in a row, then you may be diabetic. My goal (or any diabetic’s goal) is to be lower than 7. I think I’ve accomplished this. So give a hand for me! This is a Really good thing. It means I must be doing something right.
4. I went to the doctor last week for problems with my shoulder. My right shoulder has been having some serious joint pain. I’m also having issues with my wrist, hands, ankle, knee, and hip. That’s pretty much all the joints on the right side of my body except the elbow. I’ve got no issues with that. His solution was to either give me a shot in my shoulder, which would alleviate the pain and allow me to do some physical therapy. The other was to go see a Rheumatologist and see if they have any suggestions. I told him I’d like to try some acupuncture, as it may also help with my back and neck pain I have. I get enough needles as it is.
So that’s it in a nutshell. How’s it going in your life?

If your doctor's recommending cortisone shots for your joints, watch your sugars carefully. Steroids can raise your blood sugar AND increase your hunger. Also, have you gotten your eyes checked? Take care Yoshi.
yeah, that's the idea to give a cortisone shot. I'm not against it but I'm not gonna go for it just yet. As for my eyes? I'm a veteran. I've had laser surgery and everything. Let me put it this way. I can't drive at night now because of it. No depth perception.
Congrats on the A1C, that's a huge accomplishment! Hope things improve for you. We think about ya often, take care.
