Why do you blog?

This has been a big question of mine to myself. I’ve already asked this question in the past. Why do I blog? Am I an attention whore? Do I crave the approval of the public for what I say and do? Am I just another person looking to spread his opinion to everyone (all 5 readers) out there? Wait, is that the same as being an attention whore? Or am I one of those people who is looking to somehow make it rich with some controversial blog that gets millions and millions of hits? To blog or not to blog. That is the question.

I’m probably a little of all of those.

Sure I crave attention. There are very few people who don’t. I used to be one of those people who preferred to be seen, and never heard. I had no opinion. I wanted to be a ghost. Just get by and be satisfied with my normal life. Then one day, I woke up and I thought to myself that I didn’t want to do it anymore. I became less introverted and more extroverted. I think that’s one reason I blog.

I like to spread some news to everyone. I’m a gossip, there’s no denying it. I love passing on the latest news and gossip. I think I’ve been called a “chatty girl” before as well. I’m sure any of my friends with whom I talk to regularly will attest to that. That’s definitely another reason I blog.

I’m not Really looking to get rich with blogging. But wouldn’t it be nice to be one of those people who make a living with blogging? I mean I just want to be able to pay the bills and occasionally get something great for the Meesh. That’s all I’m asking. Of course, I realize I probably need to work more on my posts and somehow blog on a regular basis. I won’t make excuses. But I think that’s definitely yet another reason to blog.

I also blog to improve my writing. I’m sure if I actually write something everyday for a long time, my writing style will improve. Ideas will start to come easier to my mind, and the flow of words will come out easier. My writing will improve to the point where people will come to my site and read stuff because they want to read what I have to write about. Did that make any sense? Basically I guess I just want to be interesting, and I think if I blog more, my writing will be exactly that: interesting.

So we come to the million dollar question: why do you blog? And if you don’t, why don’t you?

Is texting the same as talking?

You see it wherever you go. Someone’s holding a phone, looking at it and texting to someone. Or maybe they’re just using an app or reading something on the internet. But we’re not gonna talk about that. We’re gonna talk about texting. You know, it’s when you send a text message to someone and they reply right away and soon, you’re having an entire conversation. But wait. You’re doing all this on a cellphone, right?

Why don’t you just call the person and talk to them?

That’s the question, isn’t it. Are we in a high-tech society where we don’t even have to actually talk to each other? We IM, send text messages, emails, and who knows what else they’ve got on the horizon. We don’t even have to see each other anymore to keep in touch. We’ve got things like Facebook where we post our status and people respond to them. Has it got to the point where texting is the same as if you picked up the phone and called?

I remember once getting a text message from Danalyn. She asked to give her a call to test something out. I think it was some kind of blocking thing or something. She said, “you don’t have to talk to me, but could you call me?” It’s kinda funny because we’ve talked to each other on the phone maybe a couple of times, yet we “talk” almost everyday to each other through IM and text messages. Isn’t that a strange thing?

We live in an age where “talking” is synonymous with texting, emailing, IMing, and various other electronic methods. What do you think? I’d like to hear your voice about this, and maybe some experiences you might have with texting. I’m also setting up a poll. Do you think texting is the same as talking on the phone?

When will we stop making paper books?

I’ve been a kindle user for a while now. I have to admit I love it. I’m also a lover of books. I Really like the smell books. I still have plenty of books. Normally the books I do have are books I’ve bought before I got my kindle or they’re hardcovers I’ve bought for book signings. But I have to admit, I haven’t bought a book just for a while now.

There are times, however, when a publisher just refuses to have a book come out for the kindle at the same time as the hardcover edition, forcing me to buy the hardcover book. But that’s in extreme circumstances, only when I Really want to read the book. Such as a long living series like The Dresden Files.

But will the day ever come when we stop making books? When will the format go to predominantly electronic format? I think we’re divided on when (if ever) this will happen. There are those who will love books forever. There’s something to having a library that means knowledge. When you look upon an endless amount of bookcases, it just screams “here there is knowledge.” But what if everything was electronic? In the future, it could possibly be reduced to the size of a modern computer. Maybe even smaller, in a handheld device such as a kindle. Not quite as imposing, but also at the same time impressive that all the books in the world could be stored within such a small thing.

When will this happen? How long will it take before we decide printing the books are no longer practical? As a book lover, I hope we never get rid of books entirely. Like I said before, I love the smell of books. When you walk into a bookstore or library, there’s just the sense of awe of books to me. I love it. The smell alone is satisfying to me. It’s Really unexplainable if you don’t already love the smell of books, or just love books. However, I’m a realist. I think it’s only a matter of time before someone decides to eliminate books entirely because it costs too much to produce.

So what’s your stance on this? Are you a lover of books? Are you a lover of the electronic format of books? Do you think everything should be electronic?

It’s all about the drugs

So, now, my doctor has prescribed Morphine for my nighttime pains and neuropathy. It would seem because the gabapentin isn’t doing everything (I can’t even imagine if I didn’t take any at all how the pain would be like), he decided to give me morphine to be taken at around 5 to 6pm so I can sleep at night. It’s long acting, and in pill form, so it helps by giving me a small amount of morphine over the course of 12 hours. So far it’s been working ok for me, although I have to say it varies from day to day. But I believe it’s because my neuropathy varies that much. It’s Really crazy.

I’ve been taking the morphine for just about 2 weeks now, and so far, it’s not bad. We’ll see how things go. Hopefully I’m not entirely a zonked out person. :D
