Castle season finale (spoilers)

I don’t know how many people who read this site (if any readers even exist nowadays) watch the show Castle on ABC, but I’d like to throw out a short mini-review of the season 3 finale. I understand that the show has been picked up for a Fourth season (applause). Now beyond this, there are going to be spoilers. First, allow me to summarize the show (for those of you who don’t know anything but should be watching), then that should give enough of a gap to avoid spoilers for those who have the season finale on DVR and haven’t gotten to see it yet.

Basically it’s a show about writer, Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) gets to “follow” a homicide detective, Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) for research purposes. From here, you can only imagine what kind of things might happen, funny and not so funny. This may include a bullet-proof vest for Castle with “Writer” on it, instead of “Police”. A very witty and entertaining show about love, mystery, and betrayal. I think season 2′s tagline summed it up nicely: “There are two kinds of folks who sit around thinking about how to kill people: psychopaths and mystery writers. I’m the kind that pays better.” That’s pretty much Castle for you. I hope to someday be one of those writers that gets paid well. Now, on to the mini summary!

THERE ARE SPOILERS AFTER THIS. STOP READING NOW IF YOU DON’T WANT TO READ ANY SPOILERS.

Sorry about the caps, but you gotta warn people before they read. Otherwise it gets ugly.

OK, so we’re finally getting somewhere with the old murder case of who killed Beckett’s mom. But it just seems like the closer you get, the more questions you have. We find out that Montgomery has something to do with all of this. The show foreshadows it during the whole show. Meesh picked up on it during one of the conversations they were all having when they were getting close. Come to find out, he was there at the shooting as a rookie. We also find out he’s supposed to keep a leash on Beckett, so she won’t get killed from the higher up. Whoever that may be. We still don’t know. Season 4, anyone? Hopefully we find out in the season opener.

Now, Montgomery with all his loyalty towards his team decides to take care of all this himself, and in so doing, hopes by sacrificing himself, can save Beckett and his family. So he ends up meeting Beckett at the designated location, which was supposed to be for an ambush for her, but instead, Montgomery calls Castle to take Beckett out of the area and instead lays a trap for those who would kill Beckett. Needless to say, Montgomery dies in the gunfight, and also happens to take down all the guys. The element of surprise wins again. 5 vs 1. That’s pretty damn impressive I’d say. Go Montgomery! We’ll miss you.

Now, during the funeral, there is an impressive entourage. We hear Beckett presenting a great speech about Montgomery, and towards the end of it, we get a view of Beckett through the lens of a scope. A sniper is targeting Beckett. Although Castle manages to see the glare off the scope, he’s too late and while he manages to get Beckett on the ground, she’s shot and it looks fatal. She’s breathless with a look of surprise on her face as if she couldn’t believe someone actually shot her. Castle, in his panic to save her, tells her to hold on and stay with him. As he sees his words are not working, he finally says he loves her, but it’s as if those words are met with deaf ears. She’s losing ground fast, and in a final effort, her eyes close and she passes out or she breathes her last breath. Of course, this is where it ends.

So true believers, is Beckett Really dead? Was she shot in the heart, like the scene is made out to be? Can there even be a show without Beckett? Unfortunately, we know that they can continue with Montgomery. But isn’t the show all about the chemistry between Beckett and Castle? Tell me what you think!

  1. Of course there cant be a show with out Beckett. Thats the reason I watch the show is to see the chemistry between the 2 not for the crime solving issues. We see enough of those types of shows. I want to see Beckett come back but also believe if she does he will then say he said I love you just to get her to hold on. Who knows but worth waiting for.

    • Yeah personally, I don't think she'll remember him saying "I love you". That's how it's always written. Of course, she'll probably say she doesn't remember him saying anything but actually does. That's how it seems to be with these shows. Let's hope they surprise me.

  2. So Montgomery was just there but didn't shoot anyone. What is he guilty of? I didn't understand his involvement. I watched him tell the story 3 times but still didn't get it. Can anybody explain? Thanks!

    • Just the fact that he was there, and knew exactly who did shoot was enough. He helped cover it up. That's really what he's guilty of.
