Video

I remember when this commercial came out a few years back (2009 to be exact if you believe the video information), and we thought it was pretty cheesy then too. They are again running this video for Christmas this year and it’s still cheesy. I really have to ask myself if the brother would have seriously waited to get coffee until he got home. Wouldn’t he have gotten some at one of the many Starbucks on the way home? Folger’s isn’t that good. You know he definitely isn’t coming home to Washington state.

Why are people rude?

TalkingYou have to wonder why are people acting so stupid lately? Is it because they think they’ve got nothing to worry about since the world is supposed to end soon? Are people just being fatalistic? Didn’t they prove the Mayan end of the world stuff as nonsense?

I think people are becoming rude because we are losing all the things called human values. Since people are becoming more detached to human interaction, most people are believing we don’t have a need to be polite. No more things like saying “Excuse Me”, or “Sorry”, or even a simple plain “Hello”. What are we becoming? Am I ranting?

I think the worst thing is perhaps the rudeness of people who work in Customer Service. Seriously now. You are working in a position where you are catering to another person. This is a field where the customer is king. If you treat them badly, there can be serious consequence.

I just don’t think it’s me getting older either. People are just plain being rude. They will cut you off in the supermarket, or give you the stare, or even just look at you with a look of “why are you so offended, screw you.” I think people as a whole need to have the manners slapped into their thick skulls. Maybe even shipped off to the Island of Rudeness and they can all deal with themselves. Or all the nicer people can create a new nation and live on that island. I’d move. Right now.

I have to seriously wonder what in the world is going on. I cringe to think of the kids of the future. What cracks me up is this: Did my parents or grandparents say the same thing about us?  I think humans as a whole are losing it. Epic fail if you will for those who don’t understand me in “normal” terms. Maybe the end of the world is coming after all.

Do you remember your favorite book from childhood?

This post is courtesy of Plinky.

I remember when I was in Japan, at Yokota High School, and the first book I really picked up to actually read was Sword of Shannara. I think my dad had bought it and I thought it looked kinda interesting. I hadn’t really read any books before this, unless it was required, and trust me, everyone went for the Cliff Notes version. If you don’t know what that is, then it really shows my age.

When I read that book, it was like a whole new world just opened up. I already like science fiction and fantasy, but not on this scale. I remember people mentioning that it was like the Lord of the Rings, and while I knew all about Tolkien, I hadn’t really read those books. So I decided to pick those up as well. And so began my fall into epic fantasy.

That was also the year I got into playing Dungeons and Dragons as well. A friend of mine had just moved to Yokota AFB and asked if I was into Role Playing and Fantasy. I don’t think my life was ever the same after that. All because I read this one book called the Sword of Shannara. Thanks Terry Brooks, you truly changed my life.

How about you? Did you have a favorite book?

If there’s no Internet, do we need computers?

Think about this. If we had no Internet, what do we need the computer for? Sure you could probably finish up some project but honestly you probably need to check your mail to get that one document for the project. Oops that requires an Internet connection.

I think we don’t realize just how much we depend on having the “always on” Internet. In the movies they make it seem easy like everywhere they go there’s a wi-fi connection available. Unfortunately that’s not always true. Granted, there’s always that one neighbor who has an unencrypted wi-fi and you can just jump on it real quick.

But really, think about it. If there was no Internet connection, would you even need to use your computer? Can you? Even if you wanted to play a game, a majority of people play Steam games. Well, you can go in offline mode, but it’s such a pain to play without an Internet connection, it’s almost not worth it. Then there’s World of Warcraft. Well, sorry Charlie, since it’s an MMORPG. Okay, so you want to play single player Starcraft II or Diablo III. Oops, Blizzard requires you to login to play those games too. Even if you’re only going to play a single player game. Boo!

Face it, without an Internet connection, the computer is useless nowadays. There’s not much to do. Am I missing something? Let me know!

Supernatural Season 8

So season 8 of Supernatural came out Wednesday night. I promise this post will be spoiler free. Instead, I want to summarize how a lot of things in Supernatural are. And how using a nifty formula, you can probably predict how it will be for most of the season.

So, we know Dean goes to purgatory. He comes back, much different. I mean spend a year in purgatory and tell me you wouldn’t change. Then there’s Sam. He didn’t spend a year in purgatory. Instead, he spent a year with someone and had a “normal” life. But he leaves her after a year. Or it would appear to be that way. So here’s my nifty formula:

  1. Dean and Sam spend time apart. This builds a rift between them. Check.
  2. Neither of the two will ever open up to the other and there will be tension between them because of some secret. But everything is just peachy.
  3. There’s always some external influence on one of the brothers that affects them in a bad way. But everything is good.
  4. There’s always a love interest that complicates things.
  5. There’s always a big blow-up or reveal that causes bad things between the brothers.

Well, it seems like that’s really all there is to a good season of Supernatural. Mix up those things and you could easily have a season of one of the greatest shows on TV. So knowing this, We know that there will be a time when Dean and Sam will get pissed off at each other and it will be so bad they will either fight each other, go separate ways (but not for long), and/or both.

Let’s analyze last night’s episode:

  1. Dean spends a year in purgatory. This changes Dean. A lot.
  2. Dean isn’t telling Sam a vital part about purgatory so far.
  3. The influence is what comes out of purgatory with Dean. (Spoilers!)
  4. Sam’s year was spent with a girl. But she hasn’t complicated things, or has she?
  5. It hasn’t happened yet, but I’m sure it will. Sam is going to blow up on Dean about the thing that comes out of purgatory with Dean, and oh, what really happened to Castiel?

So remember, that’s all you need to know to enjoy a season of Supernatural. I’m not saying this because I hate the show. I love the show! I’m just saying, this is a typical thing. See? No spoilers! Did you watch the show or did you DVR it?
