Same-sex marriages: an opinion

Posted by on Jun 6, 2012 in Editorial | 5 comments

Ok, I’m done hearing about the problems with same-sex marriage. Seriously people, what is the big freaking deal? Maybe I’m just not understanding what the big deal is.

I understand that it’s against everything your religion says. That I understand, and actually even sympathize. But you know what, maybe they are not your religion! So what now? Are you preaching your religion on everyone else? Sounds like you are if you’re saying that it’s against YOUR religion. What if, in their religion, it says same-sex marriage is okay? What are you going to do then? Is your religion better than theirs? Last I checked, in the USA, there’s something called “freedom of religion”. Am I wrong here?

I’ll even go ahead and say I understand your children don’t want to be taught these values. Okay, I’ll go with that thought. But don’t you want to teach your children values of forgiveness and care? Treat others like you would want to be treated yourself? What happened to values? If they’re not doing you any harm, why are you harassing them? I think children are not taught these values and instead learn cruelty and selfishness from their parents. Remember, children see what you do and emulate you. The “do as I say, not as I do” thing never worked anyways, why would it start working now?

I’m really rambling I know. I guess I just don’t understand it. There are tax breaks too, I can understand that. But seriously. I don’t think the IRS cares who is married as long as they get their money.

So please, can someone explain what is the big freaking deal? This inspires a poll.

Are you for or against same-sex marriage?

I do not agree with same-sex marriage personally, but I don’t think the government should be making it legal/illegal- period! They have no place in whether a couple are the same sex or opposite sex, and what they choose to do in their own homes as long as it’s consensual it’s nobody’s business but the two involved.

Exactly! I just don’t understand what the harm is. It’s in their own homes, what people do in their own homes is their business, as long as they’re not breaking any laws! Fine line. Fine line.

I’m really disappointed that not more people are voting. I’m sad.

I voted. I believe they have as much right to marry if they should chose to do so as anybody else. Forcing on your beliefs on another individual is far worse than merely wishing to declare love for a human being in my view. If that makes sense.

What anyone choses to do with their lives, provided it does not hurt others, is their own concern and nobody elses business.

Yeah there’s no real reason for the government have to get involved in every single part of our lives. I really would love to hear from people who are against all this too. I want to just hear their point of view. Really!
