The shows I like get cancelled

This post is courtesy of Plinky.

Have you ever had what you thought was a pretty good TV show, but instead it got cancelled for some reason? Well looking at the image to the left, Kindred: The Embraced was cancelled, but could have been revived if one of the actors who played a main character had not died.

I try not to like a show too much. I don’t put any faith in any new shows, because I know they can get cancelled at the drop of a hat. What can you do about that?

Not all shows are cancelled because of low ratings either. Take into account Eureka, which was pretty much cancelled because Syfy decided it just plain too costly to make. I can respect that decision. But let’s cancel the other stupid projects and crap that Syfy has before they decide to cancel one of their best shows in their history of shows. (that’s only my opinion, that might not even be everyone’s opinion.)

Meanwhile, reality TV shows are taking over the TV lineup. Let’s keep pumping these out to make entertaining TV because “real life” is better. Too bad that “real life” is just the producers of the show trying to dramatize things to make it more interesting. I mean Seriously, do something drastic and incredible happen to celebrities every day? I don’t think so. They film these shows over a long period of time and add interesting stuff or just edit things so that it gets exciting. Sorry folks, that’s not real life, that’s just TV.

I just wish the TV shows that I like didn’t have to suffer because their ratings did so bad for one or two episodes. I mean let’s change the rating system already. Let’s take in more factors! Let’s do something about this! Can’t we just make a petition or something? Oh wait. That’s been done so many times without success.

So, what TV have been cancelled on you?

Supernatural : Meet the New Boss

This is a short mini-synopsis/review of the Season 7 premiere of Supernatural. Yes, there are spoilers. This means, if you have not yet seen this episode, you have been warned, and you only get the bump to protect you from not seeing the spoilers.

Like the True Blood post I made earlier, I’ll go ahead and use the bullet method. It seems to be easiest way summarize things. Be warned. There are spoilers below! Don’t continue if you haven’t seen the episode! Spoilers after the bump.

Remember when mix tapes were the bomb?

Remember when making mix tapes was cool? Probably not if you’re one of my younger readers. And seemingly not too young either! CD’s were pretty damn popular just as I was in high school. The lovely 80′s! Anyways, on Google+, Zannah has asked about playlists and how we organize them. This got me to thinking how much making these “mix” type collections has changed! Seriously!

Nowadays, we all seem to lump songs by mood or by whatever kind of organizing system we might have. Do any of us even make mixes for people? I like to sort of think I still do. Really though I remember the last mix CD I made for someone. Of course it was for Meesh. I called it The Promise from the song by When in Rome of the same name. I love that song!

Anyways, I found it pretty interesting how people seem to put their playlists in such similar ways. Similar to Zannah, I have playlists based on just about everything. I still make “mix” type playlists. They can be about anything Really. That’s why they’re mix tapes, right? I also have playlists based on moods. I have playlists that are coupled together because of soundtracks too. I’m a big soundtrack collector. For instance, I have a Harry Potter playlist as well as a Lord of the Rings playlist. eg. Because I sort everything in my music list by album order, I won’t have all the LOTR in one place.

So, what kind of playlists do you have? Do share!

True Blood Season 4 Finale (yes, spoilers)

So here comes my obligatory review of the Season Finale of True Blood season 4. They are renewed for season 5 right? Because honestly, after all that’s happened? It seems like Alan Ball just about fucked it all up. Seriously now.

So, here’s the warning that there are spoilers after the bump. If you don’t want to know, or have not seen the finale, then don’t keep reading. This means I’m going to pretty much tell you everything about the finale. So stop reading at this point.

For extra fun, I’ve included this poll about vampires and the sun…

Should vampires sparkle in the sun or burst into flames?

True Blood season 4

This post will contain spoilers for both the books (Southern Vampire Series by Charlaine Harris) and the show True Blood on HBO. You have been warned.

Season 4 of True Blood will premiere on Sunday, June 26th.

For a recap of the television show, here you go:

True Blood is about the world where vampires are real, and because of a synthetic blood created by the Japanese called Tru Blood, vampires now no longer need to consume human blood for sustenance. They have “come out of the coffin” and now trying to become citizens of normal society.

“Mainstreaming”, as they call it, is where vampires now live among the humans and live together, day by day. They get married to humans, pay taxes, possibly vote. Even though they are vampires.

In the town of Bon Temps lives young Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress at a restaurant called Merlottes. One day, a vampire comes walking in the door, and her life changes. Oh, there was perhaps one thing about Sookie, I forgot to mention. She’s a mind reader. She can hear everyone’s thoughts. Except Vampire Bill’s.

From here on, life in Bon Temps is never going to be the same. Life with supernatural beings is crazy. There is never a dull moment. I will go ahead and break the post, please continue to read if you have read the books and seen the show. If you don’t plan on reading the books or don’t care about spoilers in general, please feel free to continue reading.

Supernatural Season 6 finale (Spoilers)

So anyone who watched last night’s 2 hour season finale of Supernatural must have been surprised. Or maybe not so surprised. I certainly was. This post will contain quite a bit of spoilers, but rest assured, I will warn you before I go into spoilers.

For those who don’t know what Supernatural is, it’s a show about two brothers who have lost their parents in an ongoing battle against demons. They call themselves hunters, but they don’t hunt animals. They hunt monsters. They know about the things that go bump in the night, and they’re afraid of the dark because they Really know what’s out there.

Sam and Dean Winchester are the last line of defense against everything that’s evil. These guys are Really monster and ghost hunters.

This is where I will leave off and let you know anything after this will have spoilers for the season finale. If you have not watched the show or this episode and don’t want to be spoiled, then you should stop reading this post now. This will be like a mini-recap of the show(s), so if you’re just looking also to learn what happened and don’t care about spoilers, then feel free to read on.

Fair Warning: this is a pretty long post, since it covers 2 episodes. You’ve been warned!

SPOILERS ARE AHEAD, DON’T READ ON IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW! Again, sorry about the caps.

Castle season finale (spoilers)

I don’t know how many people who read this site (if any readers even exist nowadays) watch the show Castle on ABC, but I’d like to throw out a short mini-review of the season 3 finale. I understand that the show has been picked up for a Fourth season (applause). Now beyond this, there are going to be spoilers. First, allow me to summarize the show (for those of you who don’t know anything but should be watching), then that should give enough of a gap to avoid spoilers for those who have the season finale on DVR and haven’t gotten to see it yet.

Basically it’s a show about writer, Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) gets to “follow” a homicide detective, Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) for research purposes. From here, you can only imagine what kind of things might happen, funny and not so funny. This may include a bullet-proof vest for Castle with “Writer” on it, instead of “Police”. A very witty and entertaining show about love, mystery, and betrayal. I think season 2′s tagline summed it up nicely: “There are two kinds of folks who sit around thinking about how to kill people: psychopaths and mystery writers. I’m the kind that pays better.” That’s pretty much Castle for you. I hope to someday be one of those writers that gets paid well. Now, on to the mini summary!

THERE ARE SPOILERS AFTER THIS. STOP READING NOW IF YOU DON’T WANT TO READ ANY SPOILERS.

Sorry about the caps, but you gotta warn people before they read. Otherwise it gets ugly.

Congratulations Trevor Bayne!

Congratulations to Trevor Bayne, for winning the 2011 Daytona 500. With 16 cautions in the race, that’s gotta be a record, right? Trevor went over the finish line with a “you kidding me?” and you could tell he was Totally surprised. When doing the victory lap, it almost looked like he wasn’t Really sure how to do it. But do it he did. That was pretty good. I’m glad they implemented the green white checker finish. That made an otherwise boring win to something pretty exciting. 20 years old winning the Daytona 500 has got to be something else. Of course, at this point in time, does he just go ahead and retire? LOL I guess he’s gotta win the Indy 500 then he’ll be complete.

I almost felt sorry for Jr (Dale Earnhardt Jr) not being able to finish the race. Almost. I can’t say I’m a Jr fan.
