Berkeley rescinds previous anti-marine vote

Remember when I made that post about the city of berkeley not welcoming the marine recruiters? Well, guess what? They decided to rescind that vote and will not send any more letters saying the Marines are “not welcome in the city.” They are, however, still against the war, and the billions being spent on the war.

I am behind being against the war. I am behind not spending billions of dollars for the war. I’m glad they voted to rescind the anti-marine/recruiter vote. Because honestly, that’s not how it’s going to get done. I already mentioned my opinions in the previous post, so I won’t repeat that here.

In other news, the writer’s strike is over. Thank GOD. Now, maybe we can watch some real TV shows instead of the crappy reality shows they have on. I won’t even mention the shows that are on, but they are getting ridiculous with some of these game shows and reality shows.

How’s your Tuesday?

Berkeley to Marines: You’re “not welcome in our city”

CNN has an article: Berkeley to Marines: You’re ‘not welcome in our city’. Apparently, the city of Berkeley is protesting the presence of military recruiters (not necessarily just the Marine Corps, but all military recruiters) in the city.

From the article: ” The battle erupted after the Berkeley City Council approved a measure last week urging the Marine recruiters to leave their downtown office. “If recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders,” the item says.”

Now, I have to admit, I’m not against the war being over. I still have friends who are serving there. I’d love to see them come home. And honestly, I’d love to not see any more of our guys and gals go over there for a tour. But is protesting the recruiters the way to go around it?

Yes, I admit, recruiters can be evil, but not all of them are. The article says, “Military recruiters are salespeople known to lie to and seduce minors and young adults into contracting themselves into military service with false promises regarding jobs, job training, education and other benefits.” Yes, I would not deny this. Some recruiters do what it takes to get people to sign up. Lord knows it’s no different than any other job.

Come on people. This can’t be the way to protest things. Honestly. There has to be a better way. Now I myself would love to hear what that better way is. I personally have to admit that I don’t know. But I definitely know that this is not the way to do it.

I’m glad to hear that the Marine recruiters are not planning on going anywhere. They’re doing their job, and serving the country.

What do you think?

A better question would be: What do you think would happen if we did pull out our troops in Iraq right now? Would there be any consequences?

Yoshi wants to say that he normally wouldn’t write about something like this, but he was bothered that the city of Berkely had to specifically attack his fellow devil dogs. Although if they were protesting any other branch, it would be the same thing.
