It’s November again…

autumnWow is it November again already? While I love November for the obvious reasons (it’s my birthday month), I do love November for the change in the weather and all the food we get to eat for Thanksgiving. I’ve gotta make sure to load up on some insulin that day. It just seems like yesterday when it was November. This has definitely been an amazing year and a half. But here we are, coming up on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Wow, honestly I do love the holidays. This year however, might be a bit different. We shall see how this year goes. I’m not exactly sure what is going on for Thanksgiving itself, but if nothing else is really planned, I hope to prepare to make the Thanksgiving meal this year. I don’t remember what we did last year, but I’m pretty sure the year before that, I prepared the meal and it was just Meesh’s parents and us. If I do prepare the meal, I better start planning soon.

He looks like a pink nightmare!

nutcrackerIn case I don’t happen to run into you on the street (yeah right) or while in chat, I wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I just can’t believe this year has gone by so fast. And it’s Christmas already and I haven’t even done any shopping at all for people. How horrible am I?

But I promise that next year, I’ll even have cards and presents for everyone. I promise! I can make it a New Year’s Resolution!

With that, I will share a video, Christmas in Japan, sent to me by Danalyn. Video after the bump!

All the leaves are brown…

1119396_87520505So you might have noticed that things around here have changed. I guess since Wordpress released 2.7, I’ve been looking for a new look for the site. Danalyn sent me a link to this theme and I’ve been in love since. It’s pretty damn cool. You can even change the orders of the side items. Pretty slick eh?

On a different note, I’ve had to redo my blogroll. You’ll notice it’s a bit smaller than normal. If you’re missing from the list, let me know and I’ll add you in there.

Other than that, it’s almost Christmas, are you ready for the presents and stuff? I know I’m so not ready. LOL

So this year for my birthday/christmas gift, my mom got me an Amazon Kindle. Now I must say that it has not changed how I read books. I mean there are still special things like hidden short stories at the end of a book edition that I have to get. But I will tell you that wow, it’s really awesome and easy to read.

As promised, the kindle reads exactly like a book, and it even auto advances the pages for you. (although the timing in this still needs some work.) Even if it didn’t advance the pages automatically for you, it’s still so very easy to flip to the next page. No more fumbling with the pages anymore. This also means you don’t have to actually hold the kindle too! No more worrying about how to hold down the pages while you eat. (which I do a lot)

The kindle is awesome. But what you have to watch out for is the price of books. Some books are priced very well, but newer books can be priced as high as a cheap hardcover. So you really need to watch out. It’s so very easy to rack up the dollars when buying books! With one touch, you can just buy a book, just like that. Luckily, if you did make a mistake, you can unbuy a book as well, but be warned, as far as I know, you can only do this right after the purchase of a book.

If you’ve been in the market for a Kindle, I’d say go ahead and save up your money for one. But if you’re a cheap reader and don’t like to buy books in hardcover, don’t bother, since you might be paying more for a book in the end.

P.S. The title this time is from a book that’s within the story of another book. I just thought it was appropriate.

Topical Tuesday #2

Holiday LightsThis weeks Topical Tuesday is about holidays. So let’s share some memories of a holiday today.

I’ll be honest with you. I don’t think much about the holidays. And when I say holidays I really mean Christmas time. I’ve never been a big celebrator of it. I used to be, when I was younger, and no cares in the world. I guess getting older changed things. I guess when you grow up, you lose the magic. But I digress.

When I grew up, there was one holiday that especially filled me with cheer. I have to admit, it’ll sound really cheesy, but it’s the first Christmas that I spent with Meesh. We met online, as some of you might know, and unfortunately, we lived miles apart. I lived in St. Louis at the time, and she lived here, in Washington. So we couldn’t really get together very easily. The summer we met, I had flown out to Washington and we spent a great time together.

Well, we apparently had so much fun, that her parents decided to use some miles (my father in law travels a LOT) and bought me a ticket to fly out for Christmas. How cool is that, right? Well anyways, I got to spend the holidays, of which I used to spend alone, with my “new” family. I got to meet the awesome brothers and their families, and I even got plenty of gifts, even though I didn’t really have any gifts to give out! I really felt loved.

Of course, they gave me gifts that hinted that I should move out to Washington (including a bag of Space Needle macaroni!), and I eventually did, as you already know. Aside from last Christmas/New Years, that might be one of the most memorable holidays ever.

In case you’re curious, last Christmas/New Years, me and my sister surprised my parents by not telling my parents that my sister was visiting at the same time that Meesh and I were visiting. It was a very momentous occasion and there was a lot of cheer and love. Family is great, isn’t it?
