My soundtrack: Honky Tonk Women…

Way back in 1989 or so, The Rolling Stones released Steel Wheels and went on a worldwide tour. I was one of the ones lucky enough to go to one of their concerts. I remember this one pretty clearly except some of the people who happened to go with me. I do remember a couple of my friends, Steve and Mark, coming with us, mainly to see the opening act of Living Colour. Who were awesome by the way. However, when the Stones came out, they must have gotten bored and not known the songs (how can you not know their songs?) because they fell asleep. Yes, it was rather shameful and I tried to deny I was with them.

Anyways, one of the songs I remembered the most was Honky Tonk Women. When the music started, these giant balloons of women on both sides of the stage blew up. It was awesome. I just remember the entire stadium (the old Vet Stadium in Philly) was in an uproar and we were singing the song as loud as we could. I have to admit I think that was the most fun I had in a while.

I was trying to find a good video, unfortunately I couldn’t find a good one. You’ll have to excuse me. I’ll update this post when I do find one.

My soundtrack: Pop Song 89…

I Totally remember the GREEN tour. We all went to this concert, “the gang” and we had a blast. I remember a bunch of us going to this concert, and I think it was when I first met Kate (at least I think so). I don’t know why I remember it like this.

I remember we were dancing in the aisles of the Spectrum, which is no longer called the spectrum, I believe. I’m sure old school philly-ites still call it the Spectrum, but it’s known as the Wachovia Center I think? Perhaps someone from Philly can set me straight since I live on the opposite side of the states now. Anyways, we were in the aisles dancing just like in the video. I Totally remember that and I remember I didn’t feel like a dork at all. Which was a change.

I think this concert may have been my first “real” concert. I say “real” because I had seen a number of concerts at Six Flags Great Adventure when I worked there. I heard Bon Jovi at GA too. I say “heard” because I was working and the concert stadium was very close.  But I digress.

I don’t remember if I knew what to expect from my first concert in a real concert stadium, but I was reluctant to have any fun I think. I remember that much. But in the end, I had a blast. I think that might have been one of the best times I ever had, and that’s saying something because I’ve had a lot of fun in my life.

It just wouldn’t be a soundtrack for my life if I didn’t at least include the video for the song. I remember there was a lot of controversy about this song, something about the nipples and Michael Stipe just had to show his. It was pretty damn funny I think.  Enjoy. (yes, there is an ad before the video – live with it, you can wait to see the video) Video after the bump.
