Blizzard sues WoW Bot maker
I’m sure any of you who have ever played World of Warcraft will know about the “bots” running around the world. Basically, people buy a program that will do everything for you, and have it run 24 hours a day, collecting money, gaining experience, or whatever. And they don’t have to do a thing. Now, isn’t that cheating? I think so.
Blizzard, the creators of World of Warcraft, suspends or bans accounts based on them using a bot simply because it interferes with normal operations of the world. A bot doesn’t sleep. It doesn’t stop to eat, or go to the bathroom like a human does. So you can see the disadvantage already. Humans cannot possibly keep up with them.
Well, apparently Blizzard is now sueing the bot creator. The creator has no idea how they can sue him since he is not infringing on any copyright laws because it doesn’t copy any part of the game. However, Blizzard is insisting that it violates copyright because it makes a copy of the game and puts it into RAM to bypass any detection by anti-cheating tools.
Who can say who is correct, but honestly, anyone who cheats ruins the game for everyone else. seriously. I really hope that blizzard wins but I’m sure it won’t stop someone else from creating another type of program that wouldn’t violate copyright laws.
