Is the “Turn” coming soon?

I know a majority of my readers are probably not familiar with Kim Harrison, who I met when I went down to Portland. In her novels, she tells the story of the “Turn” which was when the supernatural creatures came “out of the closet” (so to speak) and announced that they were not in fact myth, but rather real. The cause of the Turn were some genetically enhanced tomatoes that became poisonous to humans, but not to witches and other supernatural creatures. Hence the “coming out of the closet”.

With all the hoopla with tomatoes in the news today, it really makes me wonder if Kim knew that eventually this day would come. Now everyone is holding the tomatoes and making sure everything is safe before serving them. How crazy is this?

zOMG!

I totally made it onto Kim Harrison’s page. I can’t believe she remembered something about me. LOL If you visit her Outlaw Tour Photos page, scroll down to the Portland, OR photos, and I’m the last one in there, “Mr. Not-Katie“. I can’t believe she remembered that. I forgot about that! Unfortunately, Katie didn’t make it into the pictures!

My day in Beaverton

Mt. HoodSo yesterday, I went out to Beaverton, OR to visit Katie and to go to a book signing by Kim Harrison. The book signing was at Powell’s Bookstore, which I have to mention is HUGE. Katie was telling me that the big store (Powell’s CITY of books) is really a CITY of books. I can’t imagine the other stores being bigger.

The trip down there was pretty uneventful. I mean 2 hours driving on I-5… Boring! But I persevered, knowing that at the end of the 2 hour drive, I would be meeting Katie and Kim Harrison.

When I got there, I had to call Katie to let her know I was there, and meanwhile I had 2 hours to waste before the actual book signing. They had a place at that “mall” that the bookstore was in called “The Mac store” but it wasn’t a “real” Mac store, it was just a store that had Mac stuff. It had some great stuff in there, I just don’t have money to spend on such things right now!

When Katie got there, we ended up eating at Panera bread company, of where she has never been. I had to edumacate her that everything there was pretty much good, especially the French Onion soup. (I’m a regular Asiago Roast Beef / French Onion Soup person myself!) Of course, Katie doesn’t like onions (I never knew!) but she ordered the Tuna sammich and Tomato soup. She liked the tomato soup, and she remarked, “It reminds me of spaghetti… I have simple tastes.” LOL Ok, Katie, as long as you like it.

When we finally got to the book signing after spending much time yapping in Panera about nothing, we ended up sitting in the back. Which wasn’t exactly the greatest idea. When the book signing actually came, that’s right, we were the last to get our books signed. I’m sure Kim was tired and had carpal tunnel by the time we got to her. People had some great questions for her, some of which I’ll relay, the ones that I remember at least. I have a bad memory you know. Q&A with Kim Harrison after the bump.

All in all, it was a great day, we spent 2 hours in the signing, only because we were in the back. But it was fun, we got to yapper again, mainly about nothing. I did give Katie my address, so she’s now an “official” stalker. Cool! I told her, “Now you can stalk me!” She replied, “Like I’m not already?” LOL She’s so funny!

Me and kim harrison

Me and kim harrison,
originally uploaded by psychodaisy.

Katie and i got to meet kim harrison, author of the rachel morgan books! we had some fun!

One thing I wanted to mention about Kim, anyone who was taking pictures with her, she had us also take a picture with her own camera. I just thought that was different. Regardless of the reason, I thought that was kinda cool. And when I become an author someday, I’ll have to do that too at book signings.

I’ll be at the Outlaw Tour today

In a few hours, I’ll be heading down to Powell’s Books in Beaverton, OR for a book signing. I’m just wondering how how many people will be attending. The last book signing I ever went to was for Bruce Campbell when he wrote his autobiography. I’m quite anxious to meet Kim Harrison, I’ve been a big fan of her books.

While there, I will be running into Katie to have some coffee and dinner. If you’re in the area, show up, I’ll be the Japanese dude with a white macbook. You can’t miss me I’m sure. If you are going to show up, let me know! Leave a comment or something.

The Outlaw Tour

So in a couple weeks, I’ll be heading to Portland, OR to Powell’s Books for Kim Harrison’s Outlaw Tour. You might know that her next book, Outlaw Demon Wails comes out on 2/26/08. Normally I wouldn’t be so excited for the hardcover edition, except that this time I’ll get to meet her! totally excited, and yes, I could go to the Seattle bookstores to see her too sooner, but, going to the one in Portland has an added bonus!

I’ll be meeting Katie there for coffee/drinks/whatever before the actual signing! Yay, we’ll have some fun at the bookstore. LOL But no, it’ll give us some time to hang out and talk about the Super Secret Project we’ll be unleashing soon.
