The shows I like get cancelled

This post is courtesy of Plinky.

Have you ever had what you thought was a pretty good TV show, but instead it got cancelled for some reason? Well looking at the image to the left, Kindred: The Embraced was cancelled, but could have been revived if one of the actors who played a main character had not died.

I try not to like a show too much. I don’t put any faith in any new shows, because I know they can get cancelled at the drop of a hat. What can you do about that?

Not all shows are cancelled because of low ratings either. Take into account Eureka, which was pretty much cancelled because Syfy decided it just plain too costly to make. I can respect that decision. But let’s cancel the other stupid projects and crap that Syfy has before they decide to cancel one of their best shows in their history of shows. (that’s only my opinion, that might not even be everyone’s opinion.)

Meanwhile, reality TV shows are taking over the TV lineup. Let’s keep pumping these out to make entertaining TV because “real life” is better. Too bad that “real life” is just the producers of the show trying to dramatize things to make it more interesting. I mean seriously, do something drastic and incredible happen to celebrities every day? I don’t think so. They film these shows over a long period of time and add interesting stuff or just edit things so that it gets exciting. Sorry folks, that’s not real life, that’s just TV.

I just wish the TV shows that I like didn’t have to suffer because their ratings did so bad for one or two episodes. I mean let’s change the rating system already. Let’s take in more factors! Let’s do something about this! Can’t we just make a petition or something? Oh wait. That’s been done so many times without success.

So, what TV have been cancelled on you?

Anticipating Autumn: The best time of the year

I’m really looking forward to spending time with my wife for my birthday. So many things have been going on in our lives and we just haven’t had much time for ourselves.

I’m not entirely sure what we’ll do. Since I know it’ll be cold, I think the Oregon coastline and a tour of a few lighthouses is out. Unless we want to go ahead and torture ourselves.

I love Autumn. Not because my birthday is in the Autumn, but because this is the time of year when things can slow down. We can take a deep breath and enjoy the cooler weather.

It’s also the time of my favorite holiday, Halloween! We’ve gotta carve pumpkins this year! If we do, I’ll be sure to take pics.

Cake or pie?

This post is courtesy of Plinky.

So I think I have to say that Pies are my favorite over cake. With cake, there’s an issue with the texture. I’m not sure what it is. Don’t get me wrong. I love cake, I really do. But if I had a choice where I didn’t have to eat it? I wouldn’t. If I had a choice to choose a pie instead, well pie definitely wins hands down.

If I could eat a certain flavor of pie, then I might say my favorite could be Cherry Pie. No, this doesn’t have anything to do with my obsession with Twin Peaks. Although, my obsessions with pie could originate from Special Agent Dale Cooper!

I leave you with this poll. You choose! Then feel free to explain your choice in the comments. What kind of pie? What kind of cake?

It's a Great Adventure!

Wow. My first “real” job was Six Flags Great Adventure. I think I started working there when I was 16. I couldn’t drive yet, because the driving age in New Jersey was 17 (it could still be, who knows). I started working there in food service, and wow, was I in for an incredible experience.

Working food service at an amusement park is busy. It’s HARD. I’m sure people who work in McD’s or Burger King have it tough. I’m sure they have rushes and it’s gotta suck a lot. But I really don’t know if it can compare to my experience. First of all, as a cashier, you have to deal with guests to the park. They’ve been waiting in line for a LONG time. It’s like this constantly. It’s crazy!

If you work as the one doing the cooking, it’s like taking a break. You never want to be cashier. I remember we actually had people who preferred it over cooking.

I worked in a stand which I’m not sure is still there. It was called “International Food Fair” and it had 5 different rooms with different types of food. Spaghetti room (Italian), Gyro room (greek), Funnel Cakes (Sweden?), Sausage Room (German), and the Roast Beef room (I think this was USA LOL).

That was my first food stand I worked at. When I got promoted to assistant manager, I was assistant manager there, and later moved to Employee Dining. I eventually became Manager of a Waffle cone, which was basically Ice cream with fresh waffle cones. Yes, we made those ourselves. My fingertips are still recovering to this day. It was horrible because it was right across from kiddie land. You guessed it, we were BUSY. Good times.

I think I worked there for nearly 5 years. When I first started, I believe I made 5 bucks an hour. That was a lot of money back then in 1985. Wow. Maybe I’ll blog more about this experience. Not sure. It was a long time ago, I don’t know if I can remember everything. LOL

Yoshi, the inventor extraordinaire! (NOT)

Yoshi has been trying to invent so many things, but has failed. Someday perhaps, his mad machinations will work and they will somehow make him rich. Yeah, don’t hold your breath.

I am gonna go supergeek and use star trek stuff. I would invent the Replicator. This would solve so many things, I can’t begin to talk about it. But I will, as you know. Perhaps you don’t know what a replicator is. Basically it’s a machine that can reproduce simple matter out of energy. It cannot replicate complex machinery like another replicator or anything that requires complex mechanisms, such as a watch. However, a replicator is mostly used to make food.

With a Replicator, you would never have to worry about food. Ever. No one would starve. Everyone would have some kind of nutrition. It may not be perfect at first, since most replicators might have to be programmed with all the food of the world. But it will help so many people.

With a Replicator, money would change in value. Because food is no longer needed to be sold, money can now be spent on other items. Money’s value would change. It may not be as drastic as I say, however, it will definitely change regardless.

The biggest problem of course would be the source of energy. Would it use simple electricity and plug it into a wall jack? I somehow doubt that. A whole new energy source would probably have to be developed.

All in all, I think inventing the Replicator would probably be as life changing as sliced bread. You can count on it.

I ain't Superstitious

Yoshi is still recuperating from his bad luck streak. But he’s not really superstitious. Or so he says.

I’m not 100% superstitious. But I do have to say that being raised by a very superstitious mother had it’s influences. I don’t care about walking under ladders, the number 13 (although I admit I feel lucky about that number instead of unlucky – sometimes), or breaking any mirrors. I don’t believe in that.

However, I do avoid going out on Friday the 13th. It just seems like so many bad things that have happened to me happened on that day. That’s the only reason. Granted, it could be coincidence or it could just be I remember those times only because it’s a prominent day. I also am wary of black cats too. I have no idea what it is about black cats, I feel like they’re always watching me. Something about that is just so creepy.

All in all, I have to admit that superstitions might rule my life, but I really hate to admit it. I’m not sure how many times I’ve said, “don’t do that! That’s bad luck!”

I heart this photo of me.

Yoshi as of late has been researching too much about planetary movements, the end of the world and sorts. And no he doesn’t talk about himself in the third person often. Or at all. Just in case you were wondering.

I love this picture of myself because it makes me think of an innocent time in my life, when I had fun. Well, to be honest, I don’t remember this picture even being taken. So I don’t know if I really had fun that day. But I’m guessing by the look on my face that I’m having a really good time.

I believe I was about 3 at the time. I’d have to ask my mom to be sure. It was at a Japanese preschool.

Also, I love it because I thought I was a pretty damn cute kid. I’m not sure what happened. :D
