Cake or pie?

This post is courtesy of Plinky.

So I think I have to say that Pies are my favorite over cake. With cake, there’s an issue with the texture. I’m not sure what it is. Don’t get me wrong. I love cake, I Really do. But if I had a choice where I didn’t have to eat it? I wouldn’t. If I had a choice to choose a pie instead, well pie definitely wins hands down.

If I could eat a certain flavor of pie, then I might say my favorite could be Cherry Pie. No, this doesn’t have anything to do with my obsession with Twin Peaks. Although, my obsessions with pie could originate from Special Agent Dale Cooper!

I leave you with this poll. You choose! Then feel free to explain your choice in the comments. What kind of pie? What kind of cake?

How do you eat ramen?

Perhaps you remember the video where I show people how to eat ramen? I thought I’d revive it again, and plus take a poll on how you eat ramen or somen (cold soba noodles). I just wonder how many of you slurp when you eat your ramen. While so many people might consider this rude, because of cultural differences, it’s not entirely so rude in Japan. I do want to point out that you probably don’t need to be obnoxiously loud, or purposely loud when slurping. There’s a difference in eating the ramen and just plain being rude (i.e. mocking). We don’t need that! Of course, in your own home, you can do anything you want. I just want to point out this is in public. Here’s the video:

Finally, here’s a poll you can vote on whether or not you slurp when eating your ramen.

Do you slurp when you eat ramen or somen?

Stop the madness

So this will be a classic “bulleted post” about things. The picture Really has nothing to do with this post, it’s a random picture that just showed up.

  • What’s up with all the talk about the earthquake in Japan not being the “big” one? We don’t need any more giant earthquakes and enough with the aftershocks already!
  • Car seat laws for the toddlers? I like them, but I have to admit it’s a pain in the butt when you have a rear facing seat and you can see your baby/child in the mirror. Are these actual laws or is it just a recommendation? I can’t see a cop pulling you over because your child isn’t facing the right way.
  • I’m ready for a do-over for 2011. I mean Seriously, it seems like one bad thing to the next. How many natural disasters have happened so far? Did Australia happen this year or in 2010? Regardless, enough mother nature, we get it, OK, you’re bad-ass.
  • Is it Really Spring? I don’t believe it myself. When the temps reach 70 in my area, then I’ll believe it’s spring. Until then, it’s still winter in my opinion. Just ask all the folks who had snow fall on them today.
  • Don’t forget about all the various other disaster areas. Don’t contribute to just Japan. There are many other places you can donate your time or money to. Giving to the Red Cross is always a win-win situation I think.
  • I’m still Really blown away with all the negativity towards the Japanese. All the comments and posts about how “they deserved it” or “they attacked Pearl Harbor for no reason” is Really just driving me crazy. I’m not even gonna say more than that. It just makes me ill thinking about it.
  • Finally, inspired by the Animal Planet show, Must Love Cats, please vote on which one you prefer. This poll is multiple choice, so you can vote for dogs and cats if you’re an overall animal lover. Please vote!

Which do you prefer?

Graphic labels for cigarette boxes

The Federal drug regulators apparently revealed the 36 graphic labels for cigarette boxes. I’ve seen the three that are shown on the NY times story, and they’re pretty “graphic”, but honestly I don’t think it’ll work. Well, that’s not true. It might work on some people, but as an ex-smoker, I don’t Really think it’ll work on a smoker like me.

When I smoked so long ago, (I was a 2 pack a day smoker for about 20 years) I was hardcore. I might have looked at the packaging just to make sure it was my brand of cigarettes, but honestly, I didn’t read anything on it. It was recognizable just by the color and the design. I didn’t pay attention to what it said on there. Honestly, I didn’t even know what the Surgeon General warning ever said except “it’s bad for your health”.

I think this might be a big waste of time, and if I turn out to be wrong, it will be a pleasant surprise. This could be another attempt to make the cigarette companies waste money by the government. Yeah, I know, this is just conspiracy theory speaking, but you just never know, right? Plus it makes it a much more interesting story.

I will admit, however that the idea of purposely placing the graphic label on the top where it would definitely be seen in the stores is a nice touch. But again, I think most people will ignore this. Most smokers are people of habit. They will always go to the same place to buy their cigarettes. I know, because when I went to buy my cigarettes at the local gas station, the girls who worked there knew me on sight and always pulled two packs down for me. I never looked at the display case. This is another reason why I think it will fail.

So what do I propose to do? Well, to be honest, I think they should just keep taxing the cigarettes. Make them even more expensive. I think there are a lot of smokers out there who would make the attempt to quit if they could no longer afford their smokes. Another idea would be to do a huge billboard campaign. Perhaps an even more aggressive anti-smoking campaign on television. Use celebrity power. All this usually helps!

What’s your opinion? I’ve set up a poll just to see what you think of these ads.

Do you think the graphic labels on cigarette boxes will help smokers quit smoking?

Disqus Comments

As you may or may not have noticed, I’ve decided to implement Disqus Comments. I’m Really still on the fence about this. But I wanted it easier for Facebook users to comment on this site. I’m still working on implementing a “login with Facebook” for the entire site, but haven’t gotten to that point yet with this site. I’d like to hear your opinions about Disqus, so I’ve opened an easy poll, just 2 clicks, no commenting required, but if you have any opinions, please express them! You can also login using Twitter as well.

Doritos late night – Cheeseburger

Okay everyone. There’s been some controversy at facebook about these chips. It seems that most people (and I mean most in the most extreme way) seem to hate these doritos. I wonder why. They just say it’s gross and horrible. At least some people have tried it out. I know the name is not exactly re-assuring, but it’s curious. That’s how Meesh felt, and I share this sentiment.

So, because of all the arguments and craziness, I now have to open a poll! Poll is after the bump.

It's a New Year, Yoshi Brown.

So I hear it’s now 2010. I was watching something the other day and they were asking people how to say 2010. So is it said like: “Twenty Ten” or is it said like “Two Thousand Ten”? That’s a decent question. I think personally I would say Two Thousand Ten. Only because I’ve been say Two Thousand Nine and so on. But that’s just me. I think I’ll probably make this a poll.

Anyway, I guess this is a new year and people are getting anxious about 2012. It’s getting closer. But I think I have to share the opinion of many out there who believe the Mayans just ended the calendar at 2012 because they never anticipated anything after that. I mean, eventually you gotta run out of stone to write on right?

But I digress. The new year brings in new resolutions, and I have a few. I’d like to finally get hopping on my writing. I plan on finishing at least my first story this year. At least. I’m also considering getting back into web hosting. So if any of you are looking for any hosting, keep me in mind. I plan on having some free hosting, Really small stuff, but enough to get people started. I’ve just gotta get some site builder and automated processing set up to get ready.

What New Year’s Resolutions have you set?

If you smoke, you can't work here

CigarettesHave any of you heard of this? ocB alerted me to this phenomenon. There are apparently companies out there that are screening people for smoking. That’s right. They’re testing to see if they have nicotine in their system. Apparently, they’re concerned their health benefits will go up, and they want to keep the costs low. I’d like to think that they want to provide a clean environment for their workers, and don’t wish to endanger them, but I’m pretty sure (and ocB assures me) it’s because they want to keep the health costs down.

There is also the mentality that a non-smoker will not take as many breaks as a smoker. Then on top of that, they are saying that the mentality of a smoker could be worse than that of a non-smoker. Meaning of course, if the smoker doesn’t get to smoke, they get Really agitated. While I can’t say this never happens to me when I did smoke, I have to admit that when I did smoke, I took a lot more breaks. But I’m not defending the reasoning here. I’m just stating a fact. Are non-smokers more productive than smokers? I doubt it. Non-smokers just find other ways to pass time. That’s my opinion.

What’s your opinion? I personally don’t care either way. I think the reasons might be a bit questionable. It could go either way. So I’m presenting you with a poll! What do you think?

Stupid Sunday

Ok, so it’s Sunday and everything feels off because of the silly Daylights Savings Time thing. And I keep telling myself that even though it’s noon, it’s Really 11am. I’ll be doing that for the next month or so I’m sure.

Blog of the MonthAnyways, I just realized that I’ve been awarded The Blog of the month award from Kailani! How cool is that? I’m not exactly sure what the criteria for awarding this is, but I’ll go ahead and pass this on to the following: KG, Ocb, and Neptunebaby. I <3 them!

Ok, so today, I want to do a poll. It’s how to handle comments and how to reply to them. Here’s the dilemma: should I reply to comments by editing the comment and adding a reply to the end of it, or should I just reply via email? Or do I just comment to reply? Here’s my problem. If I reply by editing the comment, this does not necessarily go back to the person commenting, so they might never see it. If I reply by email, yes, the original commenter sees it. However, no one else does, and well, that doesn’t make it very fun to me. Then finally, if I respond by commenting, then I feel like I’m just commenting to make comments. Yes, I know I’m weird.

So what do you think? Here’s the poll:
