Why people shouldn’t drive ginormous trucks

the list also includes SUV’s as well as trucks. Yesterday, I went to the store to get some food, because the stock is getting low in the Yoshi household. I then came up with some things. Bulleted lists are fun!

  • They use way too much gas. People Really need to conserve gas, even if it’s a bit lower than it was earlier this year.
  • People don’t know how to drive large trucks/SUV’s. eg. When parking, you’ll always see the big ass truck that is sticking out halfway out the parking spot. It’s because the person who parked there has no concept of distance in their big ass truck, and doesn’t realize that the front of the truck is about 6 feet away from the end of the spot.
  • When going through drive thru’s, all giant trucks should be banned, even if the top clearance is ok. Since people have no concept of distance in their big ass truck, they take up the entire distance of the drive thru, causing more mayhem.
  • This also goes for small trailers. Any dumbass that brings a small trailer through a drive through should be SHOT.

Ok, the list isn’t as big as I thought it would be, but honestly, do we need this big ass trucks out there still? If you use it to haul around stuff, then that’s cool. Ok! But honestly. don’t drive your truck/SUV through the McD’s drive thru. Seriously.

Twitter, the universe, and everything

This post is not to imply that Twitter is life. It seemed to work out that way. Just saying.

So what’s up with Twitter, you ask? I’m seeing the end of using twitter for myself. I think it’s great, and actually, it’s a good thing with software developers, because I get updates via twitter that tell me when something is updated. But honestly, if the software you create just checked for updates itself, twitter would be essentially unessential. So, I think I’ll be dropping it sometime soon. I do have friends there that use it all the time, it will be sad to not read their updates. I’m sure I’ll survive.

In other news, the World has lost a few more cool points this morning, as I read some things I’ll highlight here.

First, “Flight attendant was drunk, told pilot ‘You’re dead”…” is on the top of my list. What is up with this? Honestly. What is the problem here? I don’t understand. if the flight attendant (is that the right terminology nowadays Kailani? Japanese call them Cabin Attendants now for some reason.) is drunk, what’s the problem? Fire her. or reprimand her. Why are they thinking about what they should do? Or did I just read that wrong? “We’re investigating to determine what the circumstances were and whether any of the federal aviation regulations were violated,” Bergen said. Who cares, she was drunk on the job. In my book that means severe punishment, or fired. Maybe it’s just me.

Second, Carrots or fries: Does McDonald’s wrap improve taste? You know, I have to admit that if McD’s put their label on something, most kids would definitely think it tastes better. I mean, they dont’ know that McD’s is not Really the best thing to be eating. And just putting the carrots in a wrap… Honestly, you could probably spend so much less and do it yourself, but these kids would say they’re different, only because it’s not McDonalds. I agree the parents should be educating children. But I also think doing a case study of kids at that age group (3 to 5) is Totally unfair and skewed. I might rattle on more about this on my food site.

Finally, I just joined an online community (yes another one) called gleamd. From the FAQ: Gleamd is a place to highlight interesting people doing interesting things on the internet. It’s not bad. I haven’t submitted anyone just yet, because I want to be sure to get all the details before I do so, and make sure they’re not in the list. One such person is Toshiro Mifune. Anyone who is a fan of Japanese jidaigeki (read: samurai) movies will know the Toshiro Mifune may be one of the most famous actors in this genre. Akin to John Wayne and westerns. Anyways, I’ve got 5 invites if you’d like to receive one. You can submit people and such. Makes for interesting reading too. I like the fact that today Eddie izzard is #2 in the “Daily Top 15”.

Is it Friday yet?

So, this week, get this. My keyboard stopped working. I took it out, replaced with another one, worked great. That was yesterday.

My phone stopped working. It wouldn’t turn on. I thought the charge was gone. Nope. Charge says complete. Still turns off immediately after turning on. Decide to head to the Sprint store to see what’s up. On the way there, I decide to turn it on. It stays on. I change the screensaver from the animated matrix code background to something else. It’s working fine now. Go figure. That was yesterday.

I wake up today to my computer turned off. I never turn it off. I turn it on. Nothing happens. Turn it on again. Still nothing happens. Troubleshoot it and lo behold, my power supply decides to die on me. I run out to Best Buy (because that’s the best we have in this area unless I want to drive to Tacoma or Seattle) and get a new power supply. Holy crap, when did they get so expensive? It’s working fine now. I guess I should have upgraded my power supply when I bought this Core 2 Duo. I’ll keep that in mind next time. I should probably also replace my case fans. just in case they’re getting ready to expire too, although why would they right?

Oh, and I hooked up my keyboard again, just to be sure it’s Really broken? Yeah. It works fine now. WTF?

Is it Friday yet?

It’s Wednesday already

So I went to the store today to get stuff for Wednesday night dinners. (we have a group dinner every Wednesday – it’s a friend gathering thing.) Do people realize that “Express Lane” means Express? Are people unaware of the definition of this word? Express does not mean fiddle with your purse while talking to no one in particular. Express does not mean taking your time taking out cash and then debating whether or not to use cash or credit/debit. No, Express means fast people! Crazy.

On another note, I went to Burger King also to get lunch, and they have these big signs to advertise the triple and double whoppers. The last sign says something to the effect of “Bigger than Mt. Rainier”. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Mt. Rainier, it’s the highest peak in Washington. I mean it’s HUGE. I live 1.5 hours away I can see it clear as day. Anyways, somehow that sign made me scoff at BK. I mean I know it’s not Really bigger than Mt. Rainier, but for some reason it just kinda poked me the wrong way I guess. I was just saying in my mind, “Um. No it’s not.”

Its time for bowling

So every year, we join Sunday night mixed league bowling. Today was the first meeting to establish the rules and stuff about the rest of the bowling year. We bowl for 31 weeks, so yeah, it’s a pretty long time. (at least I think so!)

Anyways, crazy enough, the lane charges didn’t increase for the season, however, the USBC increased their renewal fee to $17. I guess that’s not much in retrospect, but last year it cost around $14 if I recall correctly. I’m just realizing that league bowling is a very expensive fun time event. Each week we gotta dish out $9.50 for each person. So for couples, of course that’s $19 a week. Which I’m guessing isn’t that much from what I hear other say. But at the end of the year we’ve paid out $589 bucks for the whole season.

Someone told me, “Yeah, but you can earn that back in earnings at the end of the year.” Dude. Hello, we’re not the PBA here. We’re league bowling in a normal town. This isn’t a national championship. LOL I think the top bowler for the season got like $50 bucks and a patch/watch or whatever. (oh wait, I got the watch for a highest handicap game.) Anyways, that’s hardly $589.

Of course, we get other priviledges like $1.50 games when we’re not league bowling. So on our days off from bowling, we can bowl more. :P No, Seriously, we enjoy it, because we get to see people we would probably never see otherwise, but holy cow, some days, you just don’t want to bowl.

As a side note, this brings up a friend whose son is just starting to play football. He’s paying $150 to play football. Wow. I sure as hell don’t remember it costing so much to play, but you know, those pads cost quite a bit of money. Crazy!

So how about you? You have any hobbies/interests you do every week? Do tell, curious minds (like mine) want to know!
